If I could give -3 stars, I would. We arranged to spend 2 nights here, to celebrate our son's birthday. It was a comedy of errors from start to finish. We arrived at 3:45pm, in anticipation of a 4:00 check in. Took a chance that the room might be ready a mere 15 minutes early, to no avail. OK, no problem. We sat in the sub-zero (ok, I'm being dramatic, but it was COLD) lobby to wait for our room to be ready. 4:10, 4:15, I go ask if our room is ready. I'm told, "it's not quite ready yet". Fine, I went to sit back down with the family. 4:30, I go ask again. I'm told, "we're really shorthanded today and the room is not yet ready." So, then I ask if maybe they'd like to buy me some food for my trouble. I got 3 lame cards for the arcade. I guess it was something. At long last, our room was ready at 4:36pm. We had an early dinner at the new Hurricaine restaurant. Food and service were both pretty good. I mention the state and comfort of the room in another section of this review. We got up the next morning, I sauntered down to the little bistro which serves coffee, muffins, donuts and Starbucks coffee. My 9 year old son, of course, requests a PLAIN bagel. "We're out of plain bagels", I'm told. (You supposedly have a kid-friendly place, and you have no PLAIN bagels? Ok..) I then ask for one of the chocolate donuts on display. "We're out of those", I'm told once again. I then ask for one of the sticky buns. "We're out of those", again I'm told. I then ask if they actually have anything available. "We have all the muffins", I'm told. I purchased 3 muffins for $14.41, ouch! (The muffins were actually pretty good, I will say). Next up, the waterpark. The waterpark was decent. My kid enjoyed the lazy river the most. My wife and I, however, were DYING from the chlorine in the air. My eyes were burning, her nose and throat were inflamed. Granted, different people will have different (or no) reaction to the chlorine in the air, but ours was terrible. My kid was unaffected. Is it not possible, in this day and age, to vent the place to at least lower the strong chlorine content of the oxygen people breathe? Let's talk about the dinner this night, our last night, thank God. We arrived at the Hurricaine restaurant once again, this time maybe an hour later than the night before, at 6:20. The restaurant has a fairly large dining room, that at the time, I would say was 25% full when we arrived. The hostess greeted us, and said that it would be a 20 minute wait for a table. I literally was hysterically laughing. She then said, (wait for it), "We're really shorthanded tonight". Blah blah. Ok. We waited the 20 minutes, and we're seated at 6:45. We were greeted by our waitress, and given menus. We asked for water, but were told that there were no clean cups available at the moment. We ordered by 6:50. Our drinks came 10 minutes later. After AN HOUR, our food finally arrived. Again, the food was pretty good. Most of our trip was spent wishing we were in the comfort of our own home, rather than having grossly overpaid for this experience. We likely would have left prior to staying the second night, but our son was hell bent on taking a few more laps in the lazy river the following morning. After another sweltering night in our room (with the AIR CONDITIONING ON 63), it was time for something to eat prior to the lazy river and our much anticipated departure. I once again made my way to the little bistro, in hopes they would have plain bagels. By some miracle, they did have the plain bagels. $14.41 later for what was likely one of the worst bagels we've ever had, we are fed (um, kind of?) and on our way to chlorineville for our 3 laps around the lazy river. We were in there for maybe 10 minutes, eyes burning on our way out. We then packed up and left. We've never been so happy to get the you know what out of a place we were so excited to get to. Would I recommend this place? Not in ten million years. In fact, I work with several people with young kids. They...
Read moreI am not sure of where to start. We stayed here before with my husband in October of 2022 & had a great experience, so I was excited to take my teenage daughters here for a girls' weekend. I am going to be 100% honest & as accurate as I can be.
I spent $611.82 booking the trip through Agoda. When we first arrived, they could not find our reservation & was honestly worried maybe we got scammed. The front desk lady checked with her supervisor, & she found our reservation & put us in. We stayed in room 250.
The room is like the other room I have stayed in in the past. Two queen sized beds & a pull out couch. Very spacious. The sink is outside the bathroom, which I always thought was weird, but it's doable. There is a refrigerator, microwave, & the TV. Our big issue with the room was the toilet. After being on the road for a couple of hours, obviously, we had to pee. The problem is that the toilet water went down really slow, & the toilet paper would not go down. After a couple hours of having issues with it, I called the front desk, & they had maintenance come up. He plunged the toilet & said it seemed to be fine. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case, & they had to be called back. They tried a plunger again & then a snake. I joked with the guy, saying maybe a previous guests child flushed a matchbox car. The maintenance person said that though the water goes down slow, due to water pressure, it works. It really didn't. If anyone had to do more than pee, they had to go down to the cafe bathroom, which had zero water pressure issues. I was so frustrated & was going to go directly to the front desk, but there was a line of 20 people, so I gave up on that. Seems that instead of putting us in a room with a functional bathroom, they were just going to keep sending maintenance. Also, there's mold in the bathroom, which I am allergic to. See pics.
The next day, we decided we were going to check out the breakfast buffet. This was around 8:45am or 9am. While we were getting our shoes on to go down, the fire alarm went off, & there was an evacuation message over the intercom. I had forgotten my car keys, so we had to stand in the cold drizzle outside. Apparently, something either caught on fire in the kitchen or was burned & set off the alarms. When we came back in, we were told we could not go to the basement for breakfast..so we had to go a restaurant for breakfast and blew $93, even though essentially we paid for breakfast at the hotel.
We utilized the water park twice. Around 2 p.m., when it reopened from maintenance, it was jam-packed. We wanted to go to the lazy river, & it took almost 30 minutes to get a tube. There were more people swimming in it than tubes. It felt very claustrophobic & was not enjoyable at all. We decided we would go around 7:30pm, & with a lot of the hotel kids, already tucked into bed, it was a lot more enjoyable. I totally recommend going at night.
In between then the power went out. It seems the generator only kept the lights on in the lobby. The hallways were dark until some staff members put glowlights in the hallway, which lit it up more. We were without power for at least an hour or so. I saw firetruck go down the road, so I am guessing a car hit a pole. I can not blame the hotel for the power outage, but I am really surprised their generators didn't at least make it so the lights in the hallway. I heard a lot of little kids screaming when the lights went off because they were left in the dark.
Today was our last day here. Had the breakfast buffet. They had takeaway containers, which I loved, because there were so many people in there and we went back to our room to eat. The eggs tasted like the liquid ones from a carton. The home fries were really good, & the sausage was the brown & serve type.
Arcade was good but expensive, Starbucks was good, & the gift shop was ok. The teens still want to come back again, I am not sure I want to, though. I paid good money to not even have a working toilet. Gave 3 stars coz kids had a blast and laughed at...
Read moreWe went to Six Flags Great Escape Lodge and Indoor Waterpark about two weeks ago. I’ve organized my review into different aspects of our stay starting with the good, and then the not so good.
WATERPARK: The waterpark was of middling size and included several waterslides, a lazy river, “surfing”, and other activities. It was the perfect size for our autistic nine year old daughter, but I can see older kids being a little disappointed there’s not more to do. I love that it was attached to the hotel. The life guards and attendants were very vigilant and kind. For instance, the lifeguards would splash the people at the front of the line on the big waterslides, but when we got to the front, the lifeguard (young guy, blond hair) carefully cupped water in his hands and carried it over so my daughter could feel it. We were really appreciative of his kindness! However, the slides were often closed (we went multiple times throughout each day we stayed at the hotel), and there were almost never any towels for guests. It was also really, really loud — lots of people shouting and music blasting in an inclosed space. Still, my daughter loved it.
ARCADE: My daughter also loved the arcade. My only other experience with a similar arcade is Billy Beez, but this was such a better experience. All the games worked — AND THEY WERE AFFORDABLE! Each game was like a dollar to play, whereas games at Billy Beez can be $2-$5 to play. Additionally, there were plenty of “win every time” crane games so she was sure to win something. Also, I LOVE the girls at the main arcade desk. My daughter wanted this red owl from the crane game in the upstairs arcade. We spent probably $10 trying to get it, but because of where it was located, we physically couldn’t. When we explained the issue to the girls, they went right upstairs to make sure she would be able to get it. I honestly think it was the highlight of our trip. The smile on her face when she was finally able to get this red owl that she wanted so badly… I’ll never forget it. Thank you so much, ladies!!
THE ROOMS: If I am being honest, the rooms were a complete letdown. We stayed in the double queen room with a sitting area. The room was dark and kind of dingy. The carpets were worn and threadbare. The bathroom was dingy (not necessarily dirty; but the grout around the tub was discolored, everything was kind of grimy and dull looking). Also, the beds were quite literally the worst beds I have ever slept in, and that’s really saying something because I travel for work. They were lumpy and uncomfortable, and somehow, the pillows were worse. Additionally, we asked for fresh towels the second morning of our stay, but we never got them – neither did multiple other people in our hallway, if the blue slips of paper outside of the doors were any indication. Room service was all right. We ordered supper two nights in a row. The first night it took 45 minutes for the food to arrive, and the second night the food arrived faster, but it was somehow cold. We tried to explain some requests to the person who took our order (extra salt, preferred condiments, that sort of thing) but they weren’t able to understand what we were trying to say. Might’ve been a language barrier. But still, the price was right — we got a meal for myself, my husband, and my daughter for about $35. Lastly, we ordered the teddy bear welcome package expecting it to look like it does on the website. Instead, the teddy bear was just tossed on one of the beds — definitely not worth the $35.
Overall, I would certainly return. My daughter loves the waterpark and arcade, the staff is friendly, and we enjoyed ourselves. However, we paid almost $1000 for a two-night stay, and that price is simply too expensive given the quality of the rooms and the other issues we encountered. So the moral of the story is: search for sales so you won’t be...
