My family and I have just returned from an absolutely amazing 3 night stay at the lodge. We had not visited the lodge in close to 6 years, mostly due to so many negative comments floating around out there. This holiday season, we decided to take a chance and head to the lodge and I am so very glad that we did. I cannot say enough about how amazing our experience was. Yes, the rooms are a tiny bit banged up. Chipped furniture, missing drawer knobs, etc. But honestly, who cares! The room was CLEAN. No dust, no icky sticky spots, carpets looked to be in good shape, fresh linens and fresh towels every day. I always wipe down our hotel rooms with disinfectant wipes just to be sure but this room was clean. We had a standard suite which was huge. 2 Queen beds, a queen sofa bed which made my 2 kids very happy, a table with 2 chairs, living space, spacious bath with separate sink area. Fridge and microwave came in super handy in preparing some meals. On day 2, we had an issue with our door not accepting any of our key cards. We called down to the lobby and within minutes, a front desk attendant was at our door with a gentleman from maintenance. They had to replace the door handle and it was all done within 15 minutes. Amazing service! The water park was a lot of fun. Very clean, smooth operation of rides, vigilant life guards on duty at every turn. Plenty of seating. My 5 and 8 year olds had a blast. The family water tube slide was incredible! We met other families with older children and they all seemed to be having a great time as well. My kids decided to try the surf simulator and they had a blast. There is a snack bar on site but we decided to head up to our room for lunch. Now the part that really impressed me was the holiday magic this hotel manages to create. From the moment you pull up to the hotel, you can see twinkling lights everywhere. The lobby is pure magic with huge Christmas trees, lights and a Santa’s corner, not to mention holiday music playing all day long. In the evenings, we were beyond impressed with the animation provided for families. Santa and Mrs. Clause make an appearance, Mrs. Clause plays the piano for the kids, Santa does his meet and great. Story time by the fire. We even got to see Jack Frost make it snow in the hotel! Again, pure holiday magic. The kids club offers some lovely activities as well for a small fee. All staff that we encountered were super pleasant. I constantly saw hotel staff cleaning in the lobby, be it vacuuming, mopping, or wiping down glass surfaces and windows. Weekends are very busy at this hotel, especially Saturdays. I would suggest arriving a day or 2 before or after the weekend rush to be able to enjoy the facility without the crowds. Our stay was perfect. Absolutely no issues. We are already planning to return next year. :-)

This was my 2nd visit so I was a little better prepared! A few ideas to share: Bring your own snacks and drinks. The rooms have a mini fridge and a microwave. It's more affordable to have your own and the kiddos favourites on standby. Ask if there's a buffet breakfast available. If not, there's a Denny's less than 5 miles away. There are different options available food wise, you should plan at least one in house meal for your visit. Get the Coffee add on option for the adults. It's better than the room coffee and comes with refills. Add on an arts and crafts package. This is especially helpful from 9-10am while waiting for the park to open. Or during the daily cleaning break before the park reopens at 4pm. There's sand art, painting, a make your own stuffy, etc... The cheapest arcade option is 15$each for a multicard. It doesn't take long to use all the credits! There are MANY options for a few points- little candies or toys which makes every kid a winner. The lodge goes out of its way for the kiddos with a daily activity of some sort. My first visit had a treasure hunt type of thing with magic wands that my kids refuse to give away because of the memories! The park is small enough to feel safe and comfortable yet, large enough for kids to enjoy. The free towels are small but, plenty available. No where is deeper that 4 feet. There are slides for 4ppl, single with tubes, and single without tubes. There's a couple of spaces specifically for the younger ones and a wonderful hot tub for those over 18. They even provide life jackets! The water and temp is perfectly warm even in the winter. I recommend the 50$ late checkout if available or use of the changing rooms and locker rentals to max your day. I wouldn't recommend more than a 2 day stay as the kids might run out of excitement. Pool shoes are a must have as well. The staff is incredible. They are kind, helpful, and very considerate. The lifeguards constantly stay moving and focused. I actually saw them practicing and as a certified life guard myself, they are EXTREMELY well trained. Bring a couple of bandaids as being in the water for a while means kids are more apt to get a little scrape or boo boo. I recently discovered that repeat visitors get a discount so make sure you call them and have it applied to your stay. My kids are older now and they still had fun and didn't even try and bring cell phones our tablets to the park area. If you have any questions- I'll do my best to come back and answer them. We had a great time and are excited to return! *update* yes, the rooms are clean. Housekeeping does an incredible job, please tip them in the little envelope they provide...

I am not sure of where to start. We stayed here before with my husband in October of 2022 & had a great experience, so I was excited to take my teenage daughters here for a girls' weekend. I am going to be 100% honest & as accurate as I can be. I spent $611.82 booking the trip through Agoda. When we first arrived, they could not find our reservation & was honestly worried maybe we got scammed. The front desk lady checked with her supervisor, & she found our reservation & put us in. We stayed in room 250. The room is like the other room I have stayed in in the past. Two queen sized beds & a pull out couch. Very spacious. The sink is outside the bathroom, which I always thought was weird, but it's doable. There is a refrigerator, microwave, & the TV. Our big issue with the room was the toilet. After being on the road for a couple of hours, obviously, we had to pee. The problem is that the toilet water went down really slow, & the toilet paper would not go down. After a couple hours of having issues with it, I called the front desk, & they had maintenance come up. He plunged the toilet & said it seemed to be fine. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case, & they had to be called back. They tried a plunger again & then a snake. I joked with the guy, saying maybe a previous guests child flushed a matchbox car. The maintenance person said that though the water goes down slow, due to water pressure, it works. It really didn't. If anyone had to do more than pee, they had to go down to the cafe bathroom, which had zero water pressure issues. I was so frustrated & was going to go directly to the front desk, but there was a line of 20 people, so I gave up on that. Seems that instead of putting us in a room with a functional bathroom, they were just going to keep sending maintenance. Also, there's mold in the bathroom, which I am allergic to. See pics. The next day, we decided we were going to check out the breakfast buffet. This was around 8:45am or 9am. While we were getting our shoes on to go down, the fire alarm went off, & there was an evacuation message over the intercom. I had forgotten my car keys, so we had to stand in the cold drizzle outside. Apparently, something either caught on fire in the kitchen or was burned & set off the alarms. When we came back in, we were told we could not go to the basement for breakfast..so we had to go a restaurant for breakfast and blew $93, even though essentially we paid for breakfast at the hotel. We utilized the water park twice. Around 2 p.m., when it reopened from maintenance, it was jam-packed. We wanted to go to the lazy river, & it took almost 30 minutes to get a tube. There were more people swimming in it than tubes. It felt very claustrophobic & was not enjoyable at all. We decided we would go around 7:30pm, & with a lot of the hotel kids, already tucked into bed, it was a lot more enjoyable. I totally recommend going at night. In between then the power went out. It seems the generator only kept the lights on in the lobby. The hallways were dark until some staff members put glowlights in the hallway, which lit it up more. We were without power for at least an hour or so. I saw firetruck go down the road, so I am guessing a car hit a pole. I can not blame the hotel for the power outage, but I am really surprised their generators didn't at least make it so the lights in the hallway. I heard a lot of little kids screaming when the lights went off because they were left in the dark. Today was our last day here. Had the breakfast buffet. They had takeaway containers, which I loved, because there were so many people in there and we went back to our room to eat. The eggs tasted like the liquid ones from a carton. The home fries were really good, & the sausage was the brown & serve type. Arcade was good but expensive, Starbucks was good, & the gift shop was ok. The teens still want to come back again, I am not sure I want to, though. I paid good money to not even have a working toilet. Gave 3 stars coz kids had a blast and laughed at the bad stuff.

It's a wonderful experience for the kids. The hotel was clean, the staff was friendly, and the water park was a ton of fun. However, if I'm being critical, which I should be for a review, there are three things that could use some zhuzhing up. First are the showers. While, I understand that it's hard for a hotel to control the hot water when everyone is using it at similar times, it did run out pretty quickly. To boot, it didn't have any water pressure. So their weird shower head just sprayed water in your eyes gingerly but didn't have the force you needed to feel clean quickly. It felt like sticking your head out of the car window, at 10 mph, during a light rainstorm. Next was the television. Sure, you can make the argument that you're supposed to be at the water park and doing other activities during the day, but it closes at 9:00 p.m. and then you're trapped in the room with screaming kids, fumbling to find a movie or show, to satisfy the whole family. The Great Escape Lodge had regular cable and Showtime. So we did a search for Christmas movies, and a bunch of loosely based holiday options came up that may have had a quick holiday scene. The only thing that came close to a family movie was the 1988 film, Ernest Saves Christmas -- who is essentially a dumb North American redneck version of Mr. Bean. The kids checked out almost immediately, and we tolerated it until we found Home Alone on normal TV. Anyway, my point is that it would behoove Great Escape to put in some kind of a Amazon fire stick or Google smart TV that you can cast videos from your phone. Then you could downgrade to basic cable, saving a ton of money, and everybody would be happy. Finally, the "arcade". And I think it's fair to use that term lightly. For an alternate, after water park, activity It's pretty awful. There's an upper level mini arcade that has actual video games in it such as a Miss Pac-Man/ Galaga machine, some shooter, and a racing game, but the main arcade is just a horrible cash grab with almost no regular games. First of all, you have to spend $25 for a game card that the kids burn through because the cost of the machines is so jacked up. Then you gain points to spend at the concession stand based on how good you are. This translates to my kids struggling to spend the 80 points they earned on three 15pt mini rubber balls, and four 10 pt jolly ranchers. THAT which has an actual estimated value of $1-2 cost me a whooping $25. I cannot stress enough, how absolutely awful it is for a company to be doing it this way. If they would replace all but one of scammer "crane games" down to one, and replace them with traditional video games like Street Fighter, Pac-Man, and others that kids and adults might be familiar with, the kids would have a fighting chance gaining points, and it wouldn't feel like such a loss of an experience.

BED BUGS. First night in room 324 I woke up with bites everywhere and found bed bugs in the bed. My husband immediately went to the reception and requested a room that had never had bed bugs before. The front desk worker replied that they don’t keep track of that !!! I was shocked that they don’t keep track of these things !!! Clearly they don’t maintain cleanliness in an organized way. Anyways, they told us to go to our new room only with the things we needed and the rest of our things were inspected, steamed and put in the dryer in high heat in order to kill any bed bug/ bed bug egg in our things. However when they came to return our things, my son’s hat was missing. When we went to the front desk they just asked their housekeeping coworkers if they had seen it instead of going out looking for the hat they lost. (Was never found) After that, no one came to apologize, no other accommodation was given, instead we were told that in order to get our money back for the first night we would have to sign an NDA. (Which we didn’t do … hence this review). So we left without any type of compensation. 0 compensation. Also it says breakfast included which is misleading. Only cold breakfast is free. The warm breakfast was 16$ each, eggs looked like powdered scramble eggs Cz the texture was weird. The second room 427 thankfully didn’t seem to have bed bug issues but the cleanliness was not good. (Pictures are from the second room). Also one morning the fire alarm went off and we were told it was just a test…. Why would they run a test in the morning on people’s vacation?? They could have done it later. (Btw the alarm isn’t loud enough, we were so tired from cleaning/ inspecting our stuff and from the stress of the bed bugs that we didn’t even wake up from the fire alarm until pretty much everyone was already outside which means the alarm needs to be a lot louder). It’s a shame Cz the indoor water park was great, the arcades are great, the proximity of six flag, the port nearby, outlets nearby , Starbucks in hotel, activity room for kids… those were all great but the bed bug situation ruined it all even if we tried hard to not let it ruin our vacation. Coming back home we had to go through a complicated process in order to avoid bringing bed bugs home with us and I had to throw a lot of our things. Plus we haven’t been given any compensation whatsoever so our vacation ended up costing us more from having to throw some stuff and having to pay for treatments. Not to mention the immense stress it caused us and is still causing. It’s literally my worst nightmare coming true and they acted like it wasn’t that big of a deal !!! Also the toddler part of the indoor water park needs a safer surface on top of the slides Cz it’s too slippery and too hard of a surface for clumsy toddlers.

WARNING BED BUGS INFESTED! This is our first and last time at this hotel. I have a family with 2 young kids (2year old with 6month old). Room 324 was our first room my wife woke me up at 5am asking why she has bumps on her shoulder and arm. After looking they where BEDBUG bits marks. We quickly check our kids and thank God they didn’t get bitten. We look on our beds and found BED BUGS UNDERNEATH OUR BED SHEETS. I went down to front desk and explained what happened. I told her I want a room that hasn’t had a case of bed bugs and she told me that we don’t keep record. That is unacceptable. We switched rooms the hotel dried out close to kill the bed bugs but wait it gets worse. The issue isn’t having bedbugs in the hotel. The issue is preventing them to hide in our stuff and come with us to our home. We went through extensive measures to prevent that throughout Our diapers and put all our clothes in garbage bags. When we came home, we had to fumigate our car, which cost us a lot of money When we were checking out, I asked the manager if they can compensate us something and she told us she could give us the last night free if we start assign a NDA. This is clearly not the first time With a case of bedbugs if she offered us a NDA to sign. We refuse to sign for Families with young children to understand that this is unacceptable and to stay away from this hotel. To add on top of all of us fire alarm went off at 6 AM, which was testing that was being done. I don’t understand why they decide to test at 6 AM and not in the middle of the day when everyone is awake if you wanna buy water bottle, cost 5usd Which is a full rip off. Mattresses are stained and literally have a curve in them. Breakfast is not included. They say it is but it’s really cereal with coffee. If you want real breakfast, you have to pay for it. The eggs are fake. They are not eggs. Also there is no room service. You have to ask for room service or if if you need anything you have to ask The hotel is very rundown and needs a major renovation. The only positive I could say is that there are great activities for the kids, but the service and the rooms are unacceptable. We are very disappointed our vacation cost cost us more than what it should’ve because of all the things we had to throw out and the fumigation we had to do in our car to prevent bedbugs to come into our own home. Update 3 weeks after this review: They reply and say to email them but don’t respond back to me. Just goes to show how they don’t care about their customers. Unacceptable…
