I would not suggest anyone go here. Gone are the glory days of when it was one of the places to be in NY during the summer. It has been replaced by complete and utter greed. So you pay for your tickets then you add on a food and drink pass and boom 80 bucks a person. Get there and it's an additional 40 bucks to park. Handicap parking area might as well be on the moon considering the journey it takes to get to the gate. So family of 5 we're already at 440 bucks. Get to gate to the first rude teenager of the day because apparently scanning 5 barcodes is difficult and ignoring or giving us general unuseful answers to our questions is the attitude of the day. Once inside after asking 5 people where the locker areas are and getting 5 nonchalant hand waves in a general direction we find them you guessed another 20 bucks there. Oh did I mention cash is not legal tender here in fact you can't use cash anywhere except to purchase there 'debit" card which may I say is absolutely ridiculous. Now we bought the food and drink passes but if you decide you don't wanna you can get 4 chicken strips an order of cold soggy fries and drink for around 25 bucks (they claim rising costs I call BS) this folks is pure greed I would imagine based on my knowledge of the food world which is extensive enough that it's probably a 65 or more percent mark up. Even most fine dining restaurants rarely go over 30 to 40 percent. Pizza is also like $18 for the equivalent of a couple pieces and it tastes worse than cheap frozen pizza which I'm sure that's what it is. Now let's get to the "fun" seemed like every other ride was down for " maintance" I use quotes because once again it's greed they don't have enough staff to run all the rides but there wasn't one gift shop not open what's that tell you. Speaking of gift shops apparently they feel running register updates during open park hours is a good idea. Overall it was a complete waste of time and money. Oh and realize not all the rides or attractions are not included with the admission ticket and you can spend a good couple hundred bucks in "premium" rides. Now let's get to the fact the place is disgusting I left the wave pool when a bloody bandaid floated by in plain view of at least 2 employees and I even mentioned it and got shrugged off so whatever I guess. The park is probably dirty because their grounds staff was tucked into the corners of the park smoking, toking and joking instead of working. If you do need assistance finding something ask security the only decent staff there. Lets be clear this was a Thursday it wasn't busy there are absolutely no excuses for rude and unprofessional behavior and don't give the excuse they were mostly teenagers because my teens don't act like that at work. So my suggestion would be to go to one of the non six flags amusement parks they are cleaner, less expensive and though smaller their...
Read moreI'll mention some positive things at the end, but this simply isn't the Great Escape I knew and loved from the 1990s and early 2000s.
If someone were to do a case study of an amusement park that Six Flags took over and ruined, this would be it.
My oldest son turned 7 this summer, so we thought it would be a good summer for me and him to get season passes. One positive thing I'll say is that the season pass was a good deal. It was $70, it covered parking (which, at $30 per day is otherwise ridiculous), and because we visited 6 times it was like $12 per person per visit.
However, ride closures plagued this place all summer. The worst was the Storytown Train being closed all summer (my wife and 2-year old son joined us twice, my 2-year old (like me) loves trains, and this was just really disappointing).
Well, no problem, I'll just ride the Ghost Town train instead, right? Wrong. Six Flags got rid of the Ghost Town train in 2002 so they could build a new roller coaster, the Canyon Blaster. Ugh, okay, fine -- let me ride the Canyon Blaster, then. Nope, that was closed ALL season.
Well, at least the Raging River is still around, right? Well, for half the season it was -- until it closed for, you guessed it, the rest of the season.
Food prices at the park are absolutely horrendous. Because the park doesn't open until 11:00 AM now (which seems kind of late to me), we typically pack a lunch and eat it in the parking lot before we go in (because you can't bring your own food into the park because apparently you need to allow the park to charge you $16 for one slice of gas station-quality pizza and a couple breadsticks).
Okay, some positives, though:
The water park is very nice and well run
The park (including the bathrooms) is kept very clean
Timber Town is an example of something good that Six Flags added: a section of kiddie rides that my family and I thoroughly enjoyed
Most of the employees were very kind and obviously very well-trained in customer service
Staying at the park until close affords great opportunities for shorter lines for rides
The Bobcat was a great addition to their roller coasters -- not as intense as the Comet, and much, much smoother
The Flashback (formerly the Boomerang) has been greatly improved with more comfortable (and, I think, safer) seating
If an owner or manager reads this, I hope you put more effort into keeping rides open, as well as maintaining a better balance between the nostalgia of the old park and the excitement of new attractions.
Will I get a couple season passes for me and my son next year? I don't know, but the long-term closure of the Storytown Train and the Raging River -- as well as the permanent closure of the Ghost Town Train -- make it so that this park doesn't actually offer much more than a county fair. I may prefer to support local as opposed to a large corporation...
Read moreWe had just visited the great escape at six flags in Queensbury NY today, and thought I would write my review of my experience. Me and my girlfriend decided that we would visit the theme park, and purchased our tickets in advance online. We arrived to the park around 11am (right after park opening). Parking was easy and care free. We waited about 20 minutes outside of the park, before our tickets were scanned and we were inside. We then used the restrooms, which could have been cleaned a little better. There were unused tampons on the floor on the women’s bathroom. Once we got into the park, it had many ride options to choose from. Rides for the thrill seakers to the generic rider, it had options for all.
Throughout the day we rode on: The Gondola (8/10, Very Relaxing) The Carousel (10/10, Many Animals To Pick) The Cannonball Express (7.5/10) The Blizzard (8/10, Very Thrilling and Cold) The Canon Blaster (9/10, Very Fun) The Pandemonium (10/10, Super Fun) Raging River (8/10, Wet Ride) -Desperato Plunge (0/10 It Was Closed :( - )
For food we only tried the funnel cakes offered at the funnel cake stand. We got the Oreo funnel cake, and two bottled waters. Overall the funnel cake was good! Chocolate Oreos wit chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream, on top of a crunchy left out funnel cake. I’ld give the funnel cake a 7/10, tasted like the funnel cake was made weeks ago. Cardboard probably had an easier consistency to eat than the old funnel cake we had.
Staff was very friendly and awesome. Very helpful with guests with any questions or concerns. The overall cleanliness of the park was a 9/10, there were some bottles in the wooden water bridge walking from the parking lot to the bridge to enter the park. I think that this park has a lot to offer. I have been here 3-4 times in my 20 years of life. I will say a lot has changed from years past, and I bet lots will change in the years to come. I think the park is doing good with renovations, and restoring parts of the park. Growing up I found that some of the park looked: old, overgrown, rundown, and not well maintained. I feel that over the years, the park has gotten better and I think adding the future bobcat rollercoaster will be a massive improvement.
Overall, if you’re looking for a theme park in the capital district to spend a day at. You can be rest assured that the great escape will offer a day of fun. Wether your going on rides, trying the different foods, or playing the many carnival games in the park. It has lots to offer. However I think the park has things to improve on (adding more rides, cleanliness, and parking prices). $37 dollars for one day to park is actually insane.
Overall very good time, a day...
