TL;DR This was a fun experience and I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to have some fun.
This was my first time in virtual reality and I’ve got to say, I’d love to do it again. The staff was great and explained things really well and made the experience run smoothly. I decided to do Outbreak Origins. It was a PVE game which for those who don’t know stands for Player VS. Environment. Your group works together to fight against waves of zombies in hopes to save the day! I went with my brother but the other 6 people were other people. Now the following is a quick run down of how everything works: You enter the lobby of Zero Latency and sign in at a station to give yourself a username, and information such as height that will be used to create an avatar for you. Then when everyone is ready, you enter a room where the staff briefs you on your mission and how to play the game. Then they fit you with backpacks and a virtual reality helmet and then they hand you your blaster. Then you head off into the game room and you are the told to put on the helmets and move into the waypoint with your name on it. This assigns your name and avatar to you and then the game is under way. Players are also equipped with mics allowing all players to communicate making for an immersive, cooperative, and most importantly fun experience. Without going into too much detail so that I don’t ruin the surprise of playing it for the first time, players advance through different areas, moving towards different waypoints, whilst taking down waves of the undead. Players can also equip special weapons that provide an extra powerful punch to aid them in the fight against the waves of zombies. Overall, this was a very immersive and unique experience that I would definitely recommend to all ages. I would definitely come again and try some of the other experiences that they have to offer.
Side Note: For anyone wondering, the experience is not help back by any restrictions brought forth by COVID-19. Players will be alerted if they come to close to another player or a wall to prevent collision, which would be in place regardless as nobody wants to run into people nor walls. Also in my experience, having to wear masks during the game did not affect communication as I was still able to hear everyone clearly through the...
Read moreWOAH! As an avid gamer, this was such a cool experience! My husband and I decided to give this a try since it was on our way back from a vacation. Both of us have tried VR on the PS5 and have been motion sick. Neither of us were motion sick at all for this experience. I think it helps that you're moving around physically instead of controlling your movement with a controller.
The booking experience was easy to do - we did it online in advance. One thing to note: the email confirmation that we received indicated that you could not wear glasses with the VR headset, but the website said that you could wear glasses. My husband reached out to clarify since we both wear glasses and they promptly got back to him within minutes of his inquiry. They confirmed that we could wear our glasses!
The woman who helped us out at Zero Latency was very informative and explained everything thoroughly. We chatted with her after our experience too and she told us a bit about some of the other games that are offered. She also very clearly was passionate about the VR experience and excitedly described her favorite scenarios.
There were a few videos to watch that explained each scenario and how to operate our equipment. There are built in sensors to let you know if you are close to a wall or to another player, so there is no danger of getting hurt.
Now for the actual games...we did Undead Arena and Zombie Survival. Each game awards you points for killing zombies with bonuses for using traps, shooting explosive barrels, and getting headshots. The VR itself felt very accurate (aiming was very responsive) and while the graphics weren't the best, it didn't matter because of how immersive it was. The headphones had great sound to let me know when there was a zombie behind me and I could easily hear my teammate. The maps were larger than what I expected and there were elevator functions to allow you to enter a space that would transport you up to a higher platform. My mind is still blown by this!
The experience was a bit pricey, but so worth it! I've been raving about it since we got home and can't wait to find an excuse to make...
Read moreDid two of the VR escape rooms. The first (the madman themed room) was seamless and controlled well. We were very impressed, although the whole thing was over in only about a half hour. If you're going, we recommend that this is what you do instead of the controller based levels.
The second (the Alice in Wonderland themed room) was done a few months later and it was unfortunately a mess. Set up took about 15 minutes of messing around, and even then things did not work quite right. The headsets wouldn't communicate with each other reliably, the controllers kept desyncing and making annoying noises, and the controls were unwieldy when we needed to grab things. For instance, if you drop something on the floor it can be really tricky to recover it. It was really frustrating to constantly fight with the controller, although the more experienced gamers of the bunch adapted quickly. One of our team members quickly got nauseous and had to drop out. That's not their fault, but unfortunately eventually the game refused to allow us to progress without all three people at the door, making it impossible to finish. I can't recommend that game.
The guys running were kind enough to throw a gift card our way due to all the tech issues, which we really appreciated. They said their VR escape room headsets were having a lot of trouble after they were abused recently. I hope they can get things running more smoothly later, the staff are super awesome and enthusiastic about the tech and VR sports. It's a really awesome concept that just needs the...
