Was looking for something to do with my children and came across an add on Facebook for the valley of the moon 1st Saturday event. Free event, said something about sprinklers and bring a towel and hardly any other information. Oooohkay, always down for an adventure.
We arrive and quickly realize it is in a residential area. Kinda weird but still going. Arrived early and parked on the street, seconds later gates open and realize their is parking. 30 or so cars can be accommodated.
Walking in is extremely awkward. No one greeting you, no one telling you where to go. Not a thing. So we creepily wondered onto someone’s property.
There’s some funky art work, some cute fairy displays beautiful structures that look historic. Everything appears to be home made, and pieced together as if a grandparent would create for their grandchildren in their yard.
Kids are having a blast exploring, examining the fairy homes, creating stories in their mind but ….. we still don’t know what we’re doing. No one’s talked to us, kids are comfortable adults feel out of place.
After being there 20 minutes or so a man appears and says follow this path to the sprinklers, so we go! Garden sprinkler and a blow up unicorn sprinkler. Free event so I’ll never complain but expected more. Kids of course enjoy themselves.
After the kids were soaking wet we decided to walk around the rest of the property to dry off. Castles, decorative doors, a cave under Maintenance, mosquito infested pond….
Still just exploring not knowing what is okay and what isn’t. People are climbing on things, kids picking up fairy figurines. No signs but doesn’t feel right to move things but ….. people seem to just do as they please there? There’s no staff at-least none that made them self known.
Soooooo let me get on track. Interesting place. Things are a little strange and spiritual is the vibe that came to me. Very “run down” but still magical and fun. Has hugeeee potential.
I don’t know how I feel. You’ll just have to see it...
Read moreI went to Valley of the Moon for their autumn show. The plays are entirely operated on a volunteer basis, and people of all ages and abilities are encouraged to audition and participate. I knew to expect an outdoor theater performance which was lead as a walking tour by some of the main characters. Alternate paths were offered in places where the terrain was more challenging and guides were helpful in keeping our group together. It was a fun time and I enjoyed watching how the story of the play interacted with all the natural and man-made features of Valley. I did purchase tickets in advance so I was guaranteed a time slot, because I know sometimes tours sell out. The cast and volunteers pointed out other activities and events hosted at Valley which is a great way to learn more about the this Tucson landmark, which has been up and running for 100 years now! Please consider going by for one of their shows, events, or for one of their historical tours. A sense of whimsy and magic always adds to...
Read moreI have been attending and volunteering at valley of the moon since I was a child. This place is one of Tucson's greatest treasures. This fantastic fantasy land (although geared towards children) is a wonderful experience for all ages. No matter how old I get I always come back. The grounds are generally open during the first sat of every month and for at least 3 shows a year. My very first show that I was in was a Halloween show but I had seen many others before becoming a volunteer. There are many unique and fun shows including Alice in wonderland, Peter pan, the princess bride and the current show, the crossroads, as well as more. I highly recommend experiencing this beautiful land. Once you step foot on the grounds you become part of the valley community and family and you'll never want to leave. Azeo and health to all!...
