Our Airbnb hostess pointed us to this gem. You don't get a sense of the size of this place when you first walk in. There is quite a bit to see. We ended up spending about an hour and a half. The $5 admission is a bargain for getting to see all of the old machinery, all the old typefaces, and to learn about this industry that this company ended up dominating for many decades. It was plenty interesting going around self-guided, but we learned that there are tours available, and it is clear that the staff are very knowledgeable. Tours run for 45 minutes to an hour, and I learned that one of the tour guides used to be employed at the company.

So glad we visited December 15th, 2021. This museum has an exceptional collection of wood type, machines to make wood type, wood block posters, and presses. Docent Jeff gave us a well organized and very informative tour covering the manufacturing methods that propelled Hamilton to a preeminent position in the printing industry. Surprisingly, dental, medical, and consumer items manufactured by Hamilton were also on display. Admission was free with a small contribution of $5 suggested.

What a surprise treasure! Fascinating history of not only wood type printing but others such as lino type. Staff are extremely knowledgeable and easy to learn from. Many old and new prints to see, some to purchase. Truly a living active museum; a wonderful archive of this graphic art form and its tools.

This is a great place to check out if your into museums and love knowing about history and old things. Our tour guide was Dennis. He's a great guide and extremely knowledgeable. It was a lot of fun seeing all the machines used and learning the history of wood type printing. If your new to the area or just have never been here its worth...
