Staying in Broomall we decided to take a trip to Valley Forge Park for a walk. We didn’t know much about it but Maps showed a few walking paths. We were surprised to find EV charging in the parking lot for the visitor center. We plugged in and started our 4 mile walk. We were hit with a downpour and got soaked but kept walking. It’s a great place to walk and connects to the Schuylkill Rail Trail on the other side of the Schuylkill River. We walked across Sullivan's Bridge to check out the park.
Then we walked on the Joseph Plumb Martin Trail up to the Muhlenberg Brigade which has replicas of nine log cabins, called huts. These are small cabins and each one shows different aspects of life at Valley Forge. Arriving in the winter George Washington told the soldiers to build cabins. They built 2,000 of these small cabins and the soldiers were happy living in them.
We stopped into the Visitor Center which was educational. Lots of exhibits of how life was in the late 1700s living at Valley Forge. Both children and adults will enjoy it and learn something. I left feeling thankful for the bravery and the sacrifice these people made back then to allow us to live as well as we do now. And a gift shop with lots of items to remember your visit. You can also buy drinks and snacks there.
The Chargepoint app said all the chargers were out of service. The first one didn’t charge so we tried another one and it worked. Chargepoint is always hit and miss. Since they have so many chargers, they need to get them working more consistently and the app needs...

Amazing Park Rangers who are so friendly and such a well done park - you can drive between the sites (or walk but it’s long distance so prepare and be comfy) and pick what you want to see. The history is so humbling - definitely provides some perspective being there. Bring your National Parks Passport too! They’ll stamp you at the Visitor’s Center. You can do a trolley tour on the weekend and they have a guide - if you can afford the time and don’t mind the leisurely pace that those can sometimes take, look into that! I hear it fills up fast though...
Read moreThis was definitely worth the trip. There is a small museum that is free to enter and many walking paths around Valley Forge. There are also some trails that go through the woods that feels more like hiking. In total, I walked around 9 miles, but depends on what paths you choose. The highlight of the trip was visting George Washington's headquarters. Instead of walking, you can take a tour of the site on the trolly, including George Washington's...
