I grew up in Urbandale, 4 blocks from here. Moved here in 1960, when 86th was a gravel road, backyard was against cornfield; this park didn't exist then, city hall and library were on 70th (Walker Johnson Park was nearby, but was not really a destination). I went to school at 7 different locations in town. I worked at the 2 Hy-Vee stores in town while going through high school and college. I left after college graduation in 1979, and our parents stayed until at least 1999, before retiring to Milwaukee area to be close to my brother's family. Since then, I have been back from California maybe 5 times to visit my wife's family, still in Urbandale. Last July was the first time I walked through this particular park, having previously enjoyed the remarkable trail system throughout the city. I enjoyed this area so much, I returned the next day, and took 80-90 pictures of the area. Decided then and there I would like to order a paver in Memorial Tree Park to honor our parents. Hope to meet my brother here at their memorial paver next year after it is placed.

My boyfriend and I visited during the winter season, and the atmosphere was magical. The trees were beautifully decorated with lights, festive props were set up throughout the garden, and music played softly from the speakers, creating a cozy and enchanting experience. (Miracle on 86th)
