We’ve hit a couple bumps with Gardner’s and hope things work out.
The story: my husband and I visited Gardner’s twice before purchasing deck furniture. We were pretty excited about the quality of the Hanamint Mayfair table and swivel rocker chairs, found the owner Robert pleasant to work with, and were delighted that we could delay delivery for a couple weeks so that our deck could be completed without extra “stuff” in the way. We were a bit dismayed that we couldn’t schedule delivery a few weeks in advance, but the owner assured us to “just call” about a week in advance to set up delivery.
Well, beginning about a week in advance, I called, and called, and called. Monday, someone took my information and said she would get back to me. She didn’t. Tuesday, two different people took my information and said they would get back to me when the person who schedules deliveries (Karen) is in (they said she would be in the following morning). By Wednesday afternoon, no one had called so I rang and left a message with the company since no one picked up. By Thursday morning, no one had gotten back to me again so when I called to touch base, I gave the answerer an angry earful about my whole experience to date. He (I believe his name was Ray) took my information and my request for Friday delivery, and said he would get back to me. About an hour later, he called back to confirm delivery for the following day. Halleluiah! Thank you Ray!
Friday rolls around and the truck arrives around 5pm. We’re ecstatic until we realize they only are delivering 3 of the 7 items we ordered. He shows up with an additional 2 items that we did not order and did not want. The delivery man admits that he had my invoice on hand but didn’t check it before departing with the items (he claims the owner picked out the items for delivery and told him to hit the road). He says he’ll check back in with the company and see if they can deliver the remaining items the next day.
Within 1 hour of his departure, Karen calls and informs my husband that she does not have the remaining 4 chairs that we bought. She says she will place an order for them and will call us back. She doesn’t.
Saturday, we decide to pay a friendly visit to the garden center. Apparently neither the owner nor Karen are in, so the young man at the counter takes our information and leaves a note for Karen.
Update: Karen called the day following our visit to let us know that she expects a delivery in three weeks. Needless to say, we were pretty disappointed and asked for a discount for all our troubles. She noted she would speak with Robert.
About five days later, Robert calls to offer delivery of some substitute chairs that we could use until our order comes in. I happily accepted his offer, and the “loaner” chairs were delivered the next day.
While we’re still unhappy we don’t have the full order, we thought it was a nice gesture to provide the loaner chairs. We were able to host a dinner party today, thanks to the...
Read moreDrove over an hour after being assured that this is where the most helpful knowledgeable staff is. Left with plants that where expensive, and it turns out were the opposite of what I wanted.
I am in no way a plant expert, which is why I was willing to travel a good distance to go somewhere that has experts. Ever since Waterloo Gardens closed, I’ve been searching for another magical place where experts can help choose plants given different space’s environments. I was told that many former Waterloo employees are now here, and that they could surely help me. When I arrived I walked around for awhile till I could find an employee, and asked for assistance in picking out some indoor plants for my new home given lighting conditions. The young man who I first asked told me to “ask someone out in the nursery “, but how am I supposed to know who works there? Should I just start walking up to everyone and ask? A young woman asked if I needed help, and when I gave her the run down she said she wasn’t sure, but that a more senior employee would be back from lunch in about half an hour. I told her I would be happy to wait, and she did help me look at things in the interim. When the senior employee returned from lunch, the junior employee walked over and told him my situation and he just brushed it off and went to talk to someone else. The junior employee tried helping as best as she could, I picked out four plants, got home, looked them up, and saw that they were the exact opposite of what I had wanted. It was an incredibly frustrating experience to travel over an hour, wait for thirty minutes for an “expert” who wouldn’t help me, spend $50, and drive an hour back just to find out it was...
Read moreI would prefer to give this nursery zero stars. I purchased hundreds of dollars in plants and shrubs over a 2-3 week time span in spring 2016. They sell nice plants, however their customer service was horrendous and downright rude. One of the shrubs which I purchased three of at $75/each began to die within 4 days. It Lost its leaves and turned brown despite the other two shrubs remaining healthy. All shrubs were planted within a day of purchase, treated the same with adequate water and planted next to each other. I took photos of all shrubs and went to the nursery to speak to a manager. The manager I spoke with was completely dismissive and presumed I mistreated the plant with inadequate water. He walked away from me saying "I don't know what you want me to say. No one else brought back any of those shrubs so I know there is nothing wrong with them." I explained that I wanted him to make it right with a new shrub to which he refused. I truly could not believe that they don't stand behind the plants they sell and make things right with their customers. There could have been a variety of things ailing the shrub I purchased including root rot or a common disease. Needless to say, I will not purchase from this...
