We were in town for hurricane relief work and came across a poster for Alice in Wonderland as we were leaving The Bistro after dinner. Since it's my favorite Disney movie, I looked up the theater's website as soon as we got to our vehicle to check ticket availability and showtimes. Before we even got back to the hotel, I had tickets ordered! It was such a great value for an amazing experience—and it was a sold-out show.
The young girl playing Alice was phenomenal! Her performance was so natural, and her accent was perfect. She has a bright future in acting if she chooses to pursue it.
The actor playing the Cheshire Cat was fantastic, too. His performance gave us all a good laugh!
The Queen of Hearts, however, was a bit much for me. She was so intense—shouting extremely loud—but I understand she wanted her voice to carry across the theater. I just didn’t appreciate being screamed at from the stage.
Tweedledee and Tweedledum were hilarious! You could tell they were having a blast, and their energy was contagious.
The flowers were adorable, though I would’ve loved it if they had sung, as that’s one of my favorite moments in the movie. That would’ve made my heart absolutely overflow.
The stage props were beautiful and so well done.
During intermission, they offered free cupcakes and water. I didn’t have cash on me for a donation, so I didn’t grab any, but they looked delicious!
Being a huge theater fan, this show truly made my time in Valdosta memorable, lifting my spirits after such an emotional time...
Read moreWas visiting Valdosta this past weekend and stopped in to see The Story of Hansel and Gretel. Where do I start? Yo find out that most of the cast and crew were younger than adult age... WOW. I went with my 21 yr old son, his girlfriend and my 12 year old daughter. Left wishing I had brought my mom and 3 yr old niece. Some if the takeaways was that Frick and Frack were simply delightful, The Troll won the leos in the family (if you know you know lol), the dew princess had a beautiful voice and the echo was just adorable as her personality shown through. Hansel and Gretel were great but let's talk about the star of the show... the Gingerbread Witch!!!! She took my breathe away. I am definitely fan girling and plan to follow this rising star. I won't say too much bc you need to see for yourself
As for the actual theater, it was much smaller than I imagined in my head so don't wait until the last minute to buy tickets I can definitely see it selling out easily. However it was pleasant. We came casual bc it was not on our agenda and we felt fine. Some people were dressed a little better in slacks and dresses but nothing over the top. It was not too cold which was great and the smaller size meant that the seats all had pretty good views! Will be returning for...
Read moreDefinitely think the theatre is a little biased. My granddaughter has a love for theatre and because this is the only theatre in town we come to this one. Dont get me wrong, the plays are really good but the director(s) are biased and unfair. Every time we audition she chooses people that have been in every play! She rarely if ever gives new people a chance, even if they are good. My granddaughter is very loud and articulate and an assistant director told her she was good but when we auditioned for a play ( not gonna name names ) she kept her favorites that are in every play we come to. After that audition as if we didnt notice, she pulled a few actors about my granddaughter age out and was giving them a part 3 days before the cast list was supposed to come out. I believe this very unfair that they do not give others a chance if they are good. Very poor and make me not want my TEEN grandddaughter to do...
