They are Embden Geese, these geese, and have been sufficiently domesticated or habituated as to now amicably reside in bucolic Witt Park. Many of the residents are just so glad that they are at least not, in fact, another gang of dreaded and menacing Canada Geese.
Geese navigate using a combination of routes they've learned, recognizable landmarks, stars/moon positions, and an actual magnetic compass in their heads & beaks, with young geese getting to know their migration — if indeed they migrate anymore, which many do not — patterns by following in the webbed footsteps of their Moms & Dads.
