This was the first day the boardwalk was open so we checked it out. It was a bit confusing as to where to go once we parked but asking a fellow explorer set us off in the right direction. The way to get to the boardwalk looks like it is still under construction but once we actually got there it was amazing. The walk is very well constructed and the views were gourgous,we went in the evening, not much wildlife to see but perhaps given time it will repopulate. We took our pup, it was dog friendly but no where to "go" while on the boardwalk so be sure to take care of business before starting your walk. We saw people on bikes not sure if its worth bringing your bike but if you biked from a local neighborhood then it might be worth it. The boardwalk ends but you can follow a very narrow board pathway,was a very tight squeeze when passing others, not sure how far it goes as we decided to turn around. Enjoy the boardwalk over the wetlands by heading to the right from the parking lot. It's about 1/4 mile to the boardwalk and then another 3/4 mile to the other end of the boardwalk. You will be on the Potomac Heritage Trail along this walk. You can continue past the boardwalk for a few miles to Leesylvania State Park and through the park for several miles...

Easy for strollers, bikes, trikes, seniors. Lots of bird watching and turtles and fish for the young ones to marvel at. Parking lot can get full on nice weekdays after 5 and on weekends.
