Great place to bring your family to play board games or go to play with friends. The store owner Richard is very knowledgeable about pretty much every game in the store, and always has an answer to your question. I have asked him so many questions about games I’ve seen him playing in the front of the store and he was excited to tell me about them and get me started to play with him. They have a great stock of Magic cards, tabletop games. If they do not have the game or item you are looking for Richard is always willing to try his hardest to get it in stock for you. He has a great selection of miniatures and for Dnd, Pathfinder, and other role play games. He also sells his own hand painted miniatures but strongly encourages you to find a unique miniature from the store and paint it yourself. Richard says “one of the best parts of choosing a miniature is being able to paint it and make it your own unique character”. The other staff members are also very respectful and helpful in their own ways, whether you need to know about magic cards or you need help deciding on a board game to purchase or pray. Speaking of board games. Richard has his own collection of board games that he allows people to rent and play for only $3. The best part is you get to play as long as you want. I enjoy going in and seeing Richard, because he always has something new, and interesting to tell me. I recommend if you ever get the chance ask him about frost grave. Chances are he will let you borrow one of his teams or help you to create your own, sit down and teach you how to play. I believe this is the best game store in Waco and you won’t be disappointed when...
Read moreI've been to this store a few times, and I can say that the experience differs greatly each time. Some of the staff that work there are great and can be extremely helpful, others are more than extremely rude. I came in today to buy something that, while technically is not a game, many would expect of many of the places I could have gone you would expect to find it there.I searched for about ten minutes through all of the games lining the walls and when I didn't find I decided to ask a sales associate. That was probably the worst mistake I'd ever made. I waited in the mass of what may or may not have been a line, and when I reached the counter and found an opening to speak to him asked very politely about what I came for. He treated me like I was scum of the earth and not even human. Working as a server in the food industry I can understand that people can be pushy, however I was not. I simply asked a question, to which a simple, "No sorry, we don't sell that here." would have sufficed. Instead he said things that belittled me as an individual, and as a human being, inferring that I was abnormal or even mentally deficient. Unfortunately I can say this isn't the first time this has happened to me at this location. If you do come to this store, make sure you come at a time when there are no one here, and make sure you're buying MTG cards, because it seems like that's the only thing they are actually interested in...
Read moreI visited the game closet today with my 6year old son who had been asking me to buy him some Pokémon cards.
While in the store, I attempted to make small talk with a person I assume to be the owner. I asked if they were accepting pre-orders for the new Disney game being released later this month. He responded “no, but you can come buy it on the release date”. I followed up by asking when the release date is so that we could come buy it that day. He said he “didn’t know but thought it might be August 16th and that items show up a few days after HE pays for them”.
Then it took a super weird turn. I asked which distributor they were getting the game from (some distributors are local and some are several states away, which presents risk of shipping delays). His response was “I’m not going to tell you that and I’m disturbed that you would ask this question”. I asked why it was concerning and he said “because it is none of your business”. I politely stated that I didn’t understand what was so strange about the question and left. My intention was just to make small talk while waiting for my son. Clearly, trying to make small talk was a mistake.
I purchased Pokémon cards for my son at Walmart and will not be visiting the Game Closet again. This was a weird, rude experience and based on other google reviews of The Game Closet, it seems that being rude and unhelpful is a common theme...
