I ordered an Americano to go.
Starting with the positives—the ambiance inside the shop was lovely. The interior was cute and well-designed. The person who took my order was also incredibly kind and friendly, which I really appreciated.
That said, the preparation of my drink raised some serious concerns. The takeaway cup was filled to the brim—so much so that coffee was leaking outside the sealed lid. It made the cup messy and difficult to handle, and nearly impossible to open once I got home. More importantly, this wasn’t just inconvenient—it was unsafe. The drink was so hot that I couldn’t even hold the double-walled paper cup with my bare hands. I ended up using my phone as a makeshift tray just to carry it to my car. Given the recent Starbucks case, where a customer was awarded $50 million after being burned by an improperly handled hot beverage, it’s especially surprising to see such a lack of attention to temperature and fill level. Shops absolutely need to prioritize customer safety in how drinks are prepared and served.
For context, I’ve included photos with this review. While the liquid level appears slightly below the brim in the images, that’s only due to the loss of liquid from spillage during transport.
Unfortunately, the drink itself didn’t redeem the experience. The Americano tasted overly diluted, likely due to too much water being used.
With years of experience in the coffee industry, I always try to give the benefit of the doubt, but in this case, I hope this feedback can be helpful. The space and the staff seem great, but attention to beverage preparation and customer safety needs...
Read moreWe just picked up lunch from Chulada De Maíz today, and I am still completely blown away—this food is phenomenal. First, let's talk about the Breakfast Burrito. I can honestly say it's the best breakfast burrito I have ever had in my entire life. Everything was perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned. That salsa was truly a "chef's kiss"—delectable and so good my mouth is still watering. But wait, the Quesadilla Meal blew my expectations out of the water! That blue corn tortilla is a game-changer; it was so phenomenal that I don't think I'll ever eat a quesadilla on a flour tortilla again. We also sampled their other entrees, and the steak in the asada burrito, in particular, was cooked to absolute perfection. We have tried burritos and quesadillas from everywhere in Waco, and the quality here is genuinely unmatched. The value is excellent: the proportions you get are right on point for the price. You are getting so much high-quality, amazing food that it is definitely worth every penny. If you have not checked them out yet, you absolutely must! They are currently in a food truck space in front of Common Grounds on Franklin Avenue. You won't regret it! I'm so glad I...
Read moreI went to CG a lot when I was at Baylor and it was only CG and not CG 8th Street. And then I was pretty obsessed with CG Woodway for a chunk of time after they opened. I’ve recently been having weirdly specific iced Cowboy Coffee cravings. I LOVE this place! Yesterday was my first time, and I went twice 😅
This location has an old school + new school situation going on. Go here if you want a change of scenery in your remote/out of office work day. Go here if you need a break from doom scrolling by having a girly chat at the sofa seating. Go here if you’ve FINALLY worked up the courage to ask your coworker or the gal in your lifegroup to coffee since it’s low pressure and doesn’t immediately reveal how you’ve been into them for months and just waiting for just the right moment to shoot your shot. They’ve got booths where the two of you can sit and chat and not notice the gals on the sofa incorporating, “oh they’re totally on their first date” into...
