Michael represents the best of the qualities that knife dealers tend to have, and working with him is a pleasure. I have found that most knife dealers are free with sharing their knowledge, guiding clients to knife makers and knives and helping their clients develop their collections. Michael loves to teach about knives, listens to what interests you about the knives you like, and works to find you the best knives at whatever price point fits your budget. If he is recommending a knife in his inventory, he’ll tell you both pros and cons, and will even tell you to buy a knife that you are contemplating from a different dealer, if it is better than examples from his website. He wants you to build a high quality collection, regardless of the source of the knife. As he has gotten to know me, he even reaches out to me with opportunities to obtain pieces that he thinks are ones that will add to the quality of my growing collection, and ones that are especially well priced, and that are in the price range I am comfortable with. You can call him just to chat about knives. I never feel less important than his clients who buy more expensive knives. His website is easy to maneuver, he frequently adds to his collection of knive for sale, and he’s never pushy. I use a small group of dealers with these qualities, and Michael is a great person...
Read moreFirst time buyer, VERY impressed with the professionalism, courtesy, and most of all, and most importantly; the in depth knowledge of the knife I was researching - and eventually bought. Michael happened to be out of the office on the day that I purchased my knife, and Bobby was over-the-top responsive and had answers to everything that I asked, and actually it seemed like he was pre-prepared (if that is even a phrase?) and ready for all of my questions, of which I had many. It isn't often that I find myself in this buying situation and I felt comfortable from start to finish. I paid for my purchase after hours, and the next business day my knife was shipped, and Michael called me before I even got my knife to introduce himself and talk with me about my purchase. Now I have my knife in hand, and it is exactly what I wanted, and Michael called back to ask for my impressions. His mannerisms and the way he addressed the sale were very obviously aimed at me, not the sale. I hope that reads how I want it to: he gave me the direct feeling that the sale was not over until I told him I was happy with my purchase. You don't get that much these days. Highly recommended service, that I will deal with having full confidence in the...
Read moreYou can't be a knife collector these days without the active advice and assistance of knife dealers. You study their websites, you meet and talk with them at shows and you speak with them at length on the phone. They are your connection to your hobby and your passion. I've known and worked with Mike Donato for decades now and have to say that he's been a large part of making this passion of mine - knife collecting - so enjoyable. He is honest, direct and incredibly helpful. Whether you're buying from him or selling through him - and I've done both - success exists in large part because of him. Let him know what you're interested in obtaining, tell him what you're interested in selling and you have a partner in your efforts that will in all likelihood spell success. I've never met anyone like him and know that I'm not alone in my assessment of him because there have been times when other collectors I've dealt with and done business with have wondered whether or not to trust me enough to risk large sums of money on me but have decided in my favor when they've asked if I've ever done business with anyone they might know and I've mentioned Mike Donato. His name is enough to close...
