The Sound of Music was an excellent show-Kudos to the cast, crew, etc. THAT SAID, what happened on Sunday afternoon was unconscionable. I have never witnessed such poor planning and mismanagement, nor such apathy concerning a very dangerous situation.
The air conditioning broke down on Saturday, and on Sunday, the auditorium was an absolute sauna. There was not one sign or word of warning to the audience members arriving that this was the situation, and most assumed that once the lobby doors closed, improvement would follow. The environment was dangerous, especially considering that the majority of the audience was elderly, and some disabled. Many people had to leave before the show ended, and just in the row behind us, two elderly women became ill and were helped out by companions.
Management was totally unprepared and apathetic. The show should probably have been cancelled. Barring that, patrons should have been clearly informed of the situation upon arrival and given the option of a refund or credit. Were there no large fans available from the school system or an equipment rental company? That might have made it just slightly more bearable. Not only was there no bottled water and ice made available and offered for free, even after several patrons suggested it, but even the bottled water for sale had run out by intermission. Patrons were telling staff that they needed to send someone out for more water; it did not happen.
I had spent $255.00 on tickets and brought two eighty-nine year old women to the show. When I spoke to a staff member sitting in the (air conditioned) office, far from being apologetic or concerned, with a pouty face, he asked me, “How do you think the cast feels?” followed by, “If you want to complain, complain to the school department; we’re their guests.” Great public relations! Needless to say, I was far from the only person questioning and complaining.
For an organization that has been in operation as long as Reagle has, there was no excuse for the way this was handled. They are fortunate that nobody died of heat stroke. And to have the director hop up onstage for ten seconds as the audience was exiting and offer an impromptu, lighthearted thanks/apology was far too...
Read moreProfessional music theater presented in a large high school auditorium. Maybe not the most elegant venue, but it's what's on stage that matters and $65 gets you the best seats in the house. Actors of course are mic'd, but sound is good and views unobstructed everywhere in the house. Performers are a mix of local talent and ringers; you honestly can't tell which is which. Costuming is first rate. As for the audience, some come dressed up for an elegant night out, others are clearly...
Read moreThis theatre cancelled a production of Newsies and is refusing to give me a refund! I spend $500 on tickets for a bachelorette party where we were coming from out of state and NO ONE IS ANSWERING ME!!! They also did not alert us about the cancelation until 2 DAYS BEFORE OUR TRIP. I understand it’s a small theatre but that’s no excuse for running a poor business. Be warned, if you don’t have money to spare this is not the theatre to go to!!! You may lose out on a...
