My family (grandfather, father) had visited the Kuchey Family roadside stands for decades, and now I am bringing my adult children to this market that Dave Kuchey opened a few years ago. The farm fresh produce - especially the cob corn - is worth the the trip if you are coming from outside the Macomb County area. Heck, I would not be surprised if every oil sheik in the mideast is having Dave's corn flown back to their palaces for state dinners! Make the trip once and you will be hooked - my adult kids are! Mid-July for the corn and early August for the pickling cukes (in bulk), but also visit before planting season because he has a DIY greenhouse and gardening supply shop, if you like to plant and grow your own veggies. Okay folks one last nudge - go for the romance of "old metro Detroit culture". What am I talking about? Read moreMy wife called Kutcheys to see if they had green and red peppers in stock. She said a very nice lady answered the phone and said "yes". She then asked about the prices and that information was shared as well. When she visited the store she was greeted by several staff members. The man who was working the register was joyfully talking to the customers about the upcoming crops coming in and he greeted every customer by name or with a friendly "hello!". She shared that we were going to the Peach Festival and planned to buy some there. He said that he knew they were out of white corn and immediately asked a staff member to bring him 4 ears of corn that he gave to her at no cost! He even paid attention to her name on her credit card and thanked her for her visit that day. Thank you so much to Dave for the wonderful service. She will...
