I would just like to start this review of by saying that I have played 158 escape rooms across the country, and I have seen all kind of good and bad games. The game here, and the other ones at this company’s franchises, are truly terrible. To start things off, I noticed that a review was left on this company’s google page days beforehand if ever opened. How does that work? Given the experience isn’t as good or “the next level of escape rooms”, it was obviously a failed attempt to boosted reviews of the company. Secondly, the company somehow started the game without us, which forced us to wait an hour for the next game to start. We weren’t late or anything, they just began the game without us. I understand that this company is new, but they should take their time to develop the system of booking before they open the room, rather than rushing into opening the game for profit. Finally, the room made almost no sense. The tech was useless because there was no satisfying puzzles built around it. Instead, the puzzles were either incredibly basic or completely impossible to solve, as even the game masters couldn’t explain the logic behind multiple interactions. Tech does not automatically make a game good, and this room proves this in the worst way possibly. Overall, there are so many better games in the area, like Lock and Clue, The Gate Escape, Outside the Box, and Mass Escapes (some of which are an hour away, but if you can reach it, it is worth it). There are also many more passionate owners, like the owners and designers of The aforementioned companies. Don’t waste your time here. Go to a company that cares. In Response To The Owner: As always, your response is rude and unfactual. First of all, we arrived ten minutes early to our game. We were having trouble finding the place and it was not like we had arrived 15 minutes late or anything. We were early, and the website stated the game began at 12:30. Secondly, what makes you believe we were frustrated? I was (as the rest of my group) baffled by a great deal of the interactions. Explain the wire puzzle to me, how it logically worked, as well as the press puzzle. If you sensed Frustration (which was even more evident in the couple that joined us), it was because the puzzles made absolutely no sense, and even still, we were not frustrated enough to be a hassle as you claim. Finally, your claims that I work for a competitor are paranoid and uncalled for. Did you even read the end of my review, in which I state multiple other competing companies to go to? None of those companies are connected. You are quite clearly the type of person who doesn’t take criticism and thinks that tech makes a game good, even when it doesn’t mean anything unless you build a satisfying puzzle around it. The tech you implement is not even that high tech, as the robotic head is literally just a moving, decorated head with a microphone and speaker. It doesn’t really matter though, because your game and your attitude...
Read moreHaving purchased a Groupon, I figured my friend and I could give this new location a try. When we got there, we found another friend (and his friends) were part of our group. Between all of us, we had around 75 escape rooms under our collective belts.
You could tell this company was new at this, the host (possibly the owner), was still learning how to give the opening speech with details about what we could or couldn't do. Walking into the room, it seemed somewhat limited in atmosphere, but the props look decently put together. Almost all of the puzzles in the room are electronic in nature with minimal actual locks. It seemed at least 2 things in the room were not working and the clue we kept getting for the 1st of these two (which we had to request several times) was a repeated hint no matter how many times we asked. When "given" the solution (yet another repetition of the clue, and even going out to ask in person and indicate we thought there was a defect), it worked the 3rd time we tried it. Another "puzzle" we kept doing the one and only thing we could do with it and nothing happened and after several minutes, we asked for a clue (we really hate asking for clues...) but instead of addressing this issue, we were given a "hint" on the code to get into the next room.
The next room wasn't any easier, but everything appeared to work, although one of the things seemed to consist of just blind guessing to solve. Overall the entire experience was pretty linear. It could easily have been done with 2 people, but there was no true "logic" behind most of the puzzles, just being a random collection of puzzles and we seemed to need clues the whole time. We found our group of 6 people (plus child) around the same puzzles waiting for that one to be "solved".
Overall, it seemed to be something put together be someone who felt they could "do it better" by making things all electronic but not really taking time to figure out what actually makes a good escape room. Things like actual atmosphere, good puzzles, setting a mood, and making sure all your equipment is working and taking responsibility when it isn't.
One last note: we ended up in a room that had a 5 year old (or thereabouts), and he was cute and all, but there was a bit of frustration as he went around trying to "help". This had no bearing on my review/rating as Escape Room Rhode Island didn't have any control over that. I do think they had some note about not having young children in an escape in their reservation process, but can't confirm as it wasn't me that made...
Read morehard to find, gps doesnt take you to the store front. i would say the place needs better signs but honestly, dont bother. place will be closed in a week. staff is about as energetic as employees at foot locker, mumbling during the introduction. building has no bathroom, so the men pee outside and the girls report that the bathroom that is inside the nearby facility is a workers bathroom, not public, and is completely unsanitary. understand that this means every inch of the game room, props, everything is covered in feces. bring some hand sanitizer. once inside the game room, the staff could be heard talking loudly and laughing loudly, incredibly rude and i felt they were making fun of us. the one star is because the props are aesthetically please, however some were broken (these things happen) but the assistant who came in to fix the prop left his drill in the room. dont do this. the puzzles were solved in a linnear progression which imo there are too many puzzles in the room at once, either make them progress less linnearly, or hide them so thwt time isnt completely wasted looking at things that dont matter. some puzzles seems highly slow, unresponsive to our inputs so we had to ask for help and were told to keep doing what we were doing. the second room contains an entire puzzle that is a RED HERRING hello! that makes this room an automatic FAIL in my book, its one thing to include red herrings (dont) but there is an entire puzzle with no purpose other than to upert the person wasting their time. when asked, the staff did not have any answers about the puzzles, or the room. when asked for hints the staff did not seem to know what a hint is or how to give one, short of literally blurting out the answer, i literally stopped the guy mid sentance, i was NOT impressed. retrain the staff, or replace them. there are plenty of young kids in school for acting who want to work at an escape room and will actually do a good job. all of these issue could have been avoided if the staff were trained properly to divert attention to the positive side of the game, instead of completely failing. ive honestly had better service at a mcdonalds, and im dissapointed that the staff seem to be the left overs of a very in demand pool of people who WANT the job. the staff were merely wasting our time, and ruining...
