I've been to Immaculate Conception twice -- to the 6:00 p.m. Mass on Sunday, and to the 6:30 p.m. Mass on Thursday. Both Masses were beautiful and truly reverent. The organ music at the Sunday evening Mass was wonderful! The Thursday evening Mass was a rare Latin Novus Ordo -- not a TLM, but a Novus Ordo Mass said in Latin. After the Mass, there was a Holy Hour with confessions available. Then, there was a social event with wine and snacks in the rectory garden. I appreciate that this parish offers confession every day -- not just for one hour on Saturdays. It is also a good parish for young single adults or couples without children living in the DMV area. At both Masses I attended, most parishioners appeared to be young professionals in their 20s and 30s. There weren't many elderly people or families with young kids. It's not that older people or kids wouldn't be welcome; it's that they weren't the primary demographic of the parish.
Immaculate Conception is located in close proximity to the Mount Vernon Square Metro station on the Yellow and Green Lines. Parking is limited, so it is probably easier to take the Metro if you can. If you're looking for a reverent Mass and/or a parish with a vibrant young adults community, then I recommend...
Read moreWhile visiting Washington DC, we visited this beautiful cathedral. Impressive paintings on ceilings, and decorative portraits of different Virgin/saints were most impressive. The pipe organ is unlike anything we had experienced at a larger scale, and the sound was a unique resounding experience to last a lifetime. We went as tourists to see the cathedral, but we arrived there by coincidence for the mass at 5 o’clock. Below the cathedral level, there are three floors down of sections to pray/kneel/ candles in remembrance, Grotto type areas for reflection and quiet prayer; there is a gift shop with beautiful things. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity must see! Largest Cathedral-Catholic in the nation. This place is for all race, religions to see this magnificent cathedral. The area...
