Scam + Horrible Service + Dirty Bedding = Not recommended
I STRONGLY WARN AGAINST using this hotel due to deceptive and unfair business practices.
I booked two nights at this hotel for my mother who lives out of state. Though the building is historic and has a pleasant exterior, the lobby looks unprofessional and the staff does not treat you with the customer service you would expect from a hotel. Chain hotels have far better service from the front desk associates.
After my mother checks in and gets to her room, she discovers dirty bedding. She contacted the front desk, who promptly moved her to another room that also had dirty bedding! At this point my mother had me on the phone with her while she was at the front desk. We asked whether someone could simply change the bedding, but were told that no one was available to change the bedding; the cleaning staff was gone until the next morning.
At this point, my mother did not want to stay at this hotel and I don’t blame her. She asked what her options were, and was told that we could find her another place to stay and they would issue a full refund. Since mom came in from out of state and it was around 11pm, we decided it would be best for her to simply stay with us – not the comfortable stay I had planned.
The next day, I contacted my credit card company (Chase) to request a full refund as we were promised and instructed by the hotel staff. I booked with points and had to go through Ultimate Rewards, the rewards TPA for Chase cards. I provided the name of the front desk associate and his title – he had written it on a card for me and obviously expected that I would be asked. After an extended hold, I was told the hotel was offering me a 1-night refund. This was unacceptable. I was instructed to contact the hotel directly to discuss my issue with a manager.
I called the hotel and asked for a manager. I was told no manager was in. I asked when a manager would be in and was told “12 or 1”. At 3pm I called back and asked for a manager, and was told that the manager had left for the day. At this point, I explained the situation for the person on the phone, left my number, and asked when I could expect a call. I was told “tomorrow maybe [Saturday], but probably this weekend”.
By the end of the weekend, I received no call. Believing I would get nowhere by calling back, I emailed them through their website on October 20th explaining the situation and asking for a manager to call me. The next day, I received a response stating that they informed my credit card company to refund one night. I replied the same day stating my refund should be for two nights. I did not receive any further replies from the hotel. I emailed back on October 23rd, and again on October 25th asking for someone to call me. After 4 requests for a phone call that were all very congenial, no one to this day has reached out to me.
I worked with my credit card company to resolve the issue, but to this day no refund was given and no one answered my requests for a phone call. I did find out that after the night audit [employee’s title] told us we would get a full refund for two nights, he notated on our reservation that we would get 1 night refunded. Though Chase was good enough to give me a refund after sharing my experiences, this hotel still got paid for providing lousy service, giving me the run-around, and for having dirty bedding – the most basic requirement for a hotel being to provide a clean bed.
In addition to the horrible experience I had, I would also share that the odd, erotic, Asian art throughout the hotel was unsightly and...
Read moreWell, we came here with high hopes, I really wanted it to work out but its just not for family. Number of issues : 1 - Sleeper sofa that they claim can sleep 2 can sleep two only if the thing was not ripped apart. The bed had no support at all. After a complaint they did provide a thicker mattress but it just didn't cut it. 2 - The complimentary WiFi is not stable. I am an IT guy and where they put the WiFi routers is in the hallway, you can barely get a signal in the living room by the door, of course the bedroom had no luck with signal. It is really a bad design considering everywhere in the hotel is with marble which is another complaint. 3- Everywhere is MARBLE which at first sight is nice, but it is not comfortable. This is definitely not a place for family or they just gave me the worse suite in the building since I booked through Expedia. (room 403). Everything in the room is new, appliances, TV is nice too, and I am not the type of person that likes to stay in the room, we have been doing a lot of sightseeing, but we are really not pleased with this room. The rooms are COLD, since everywhere is Marble floor, thus causing the heater to kick in every 3 mins at 71 degrees, which causes a lot of dry heat. 4 - Continental breakfast, is what it is, crousants, danishes, they were not the freshest, coffee was good, strong the way I like it. 5 - Bathroom of course marble looks nice but not comfortable again, it is a nice design and does look good, but when you do get out of the shower even though there are towels on the floor everywhere gets wet, and guess what? Marble floors :) easy to slip and fall. Imagine being someone older (which I am not) slip and fall in the bathroom in this place, huge liability. 6 - Parking $28 per night. A bit much I think but it is what it is.
Good things, 1- Location is really good, close to metro and bus station. 2 - Staff is friendly and helpful which does make up for the overall experience. But seems like they are understaffed and overwhelmed at times. In 3 nights we stayed we called twice the front desk and they did their best. Very much appreciated.
Sadly, will I stay here ever, NO! It is a nice try, but while trying to make the rooms look nice, they gave away comfort. The place does not feel warm enough. Seems like things are still falling in to place. Suggestion will be put little more carpeting, instead of providing top of the line appliances, provide more comfortable seating arrangements and bedding...
Read moreThere’s a heat wave going on in DC, and they told us days prior to our arrival that their AC went down but they were getting it fixed. In fact they said it had already been 30 percent fixed. So why was it that when we came a week later for our stay, the only air running seems to be in the lobby, elevator, and halls?
Our room has been 85/86 degrees (and we’ve kept it on 51 paying it will cool down) for the entirety of our stay, and the only “relief” they provided when we called, was a crappy fan. You don’t even feel clean when you go to wash up in the bathroom because within 2 minutes you’re covered in sweat because it’s not just hot, it’s unbelievably humid. Every night we’re tossing and turning even with the fan next to the bed because it feels like being trapped in a suffocating swamp. It’s actually sad because just last night we decided to open the main door to the room, just so a little of the cool air from the hallway could filter in, and our neighbors on the floor were doing it too.
I just don’t understand how you call yourself a luxury suite, knowing there’s a heat wave going on and not finding that alarming enough to get the air flow to your rooms fixed. I really don’t like being harsh, but this is one of my worst stay experiences that I can remember, and travel a few times a year with family and friends. Over 1k to stay and we can’t even get proper rest because of how untenable this is.
Maybe there are times when they’ve got their ducks in a row, and then I’m sure it’s a decent stay, but for this particular stay? It’s just feeling like a scam, and I cannot imagine recommending this place to anyone I know, or even strangers. The company that owns the place should be ashamed of themselves. If you’re confident enough to take people’s money, you should at least have the decency to keep your hotel in...
