Absolutely amazing, if you want to get a sense of the history of Orcas, this is the place! It was free to enter, but they do suggest you donate. The staff members were wonderful, passionate, and knowledgeable. I might come back again just to say hi! I also bought christmas gifts, and some stuff for myself, like a san juan islands scene byway sticker for my car!

A cute little museum outlining the history of orcas Island. It largely talks about settlement on the island. They also have some scavenger hunts for kids. Plan to spend anywhere between 15 to 60 minutes at the museum, depending on your interests.

I'm a history buff so this type of place is right up my alley. In any place I visit, I make it a point to learn about its history and get an understanding of how it came to be the way that it is. I got a really good snapshot of how the communities developed on the island and there were some excellent artifacts to behold to go along with the stories of early settlers.

It's not too information heavy which is actually good so you won't be spending all day there. Just enough to learn some solid information but not too much to be overwhelming. Entry donation/fee was cheap so a highly affordable way to spend some time. I would have given it five stars but my only critic is the lack of information about Native Americans prior to white settlers. Coming from the American Southwest, I have a deep appreciation for our Indigenous cultures and I feel like they should be better represented in an establishment like this. Definitely recommend...

Small but richly curated museum. Gives you a real feel for what it must have been like to live on Orcas in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when it was a lot rougher than today. The one room cabin where something like 10 people lived gives you an idea how different it was. A good place to poke around for an hour, maybe more if you are a hardcore...
