Absolutely terrible. We were told 20 mins for the table and it took 45 mins. We sat down at 9 am and ordered as soon as the server came over. Now it's 9:50 am and the server kept telling us 5 mins, over and over. I finally asked how much longer because we had a ferry we needed to catch. The server responded "welcome to island time". That is SO rude. We've been on the island for 3 days and every restaurant was extremely quick and easy. So no, I think that's just Island Skillet time. I'm still unsure why it took so long because they maybe had 4 tables in there. I own a restaurant myself and the wait time was completely unacceptable.
While we were waiting, someone came out of the kitchen slamming chairs everywhere and angrily cleaning and sweeping after a table that had just had a kid sitting there. We couldn't believe how weird his behavior was. You would have thought he just got fired and was passed. Very confusing.
We eventually are now at 10 am and had to get the food Togo. We were basically waiting almost 2 hours for this meal and it unfortunately wasn't very good. Extremely disappointed.
So now 2 hours after we arrived, between waiting for a table and ordering, we got our food Togo. I asked for the check and he said "sorry for the long wait, I took care of your coffees". But he said it more because he felt obligated. He really didn't seem to care or is just used to it. Coffee cost about 20 cents per cup, so that really wasn't enough. We ate the food back in our room and talked about how we wish we just went to the bakery. Food was very greasy and didn't taste fresh at all.
While waiting for a very long time, I decided to start reading reviews. Although there are some very good ones, there were a lot about rude staff or the food being slow. Now I understand!
This is the first bad review I've ever written. Typically I would email a restaurant directly just to inform management, and not to post it publicly. As I understand getting bad reviews it's not good. But in this case, I'd rather warn people. From the behavior I saw today, I don't see them appreciating a heads up or caring at all. Staff was very rude. If they were a little nicer and more apologetic, I'd definitely let it slide. Or if they were so busy they had trouble keeping up in the kitchen. But as being in the industry for 30 years and worked on the line, served, hostesses and now own a breakfast restaurant, this was terrible all around. I hope I make it back to this beautiful island and can check out another spot...
Read moreOur family unfortunately did not have a pleasant experience here last weekend. From the moment we walked into this restaurant, we were unwelcome. We admittedly had a large party of 10 that came in but it was 11 am and google said they closed at 1 pm so we thought we’d have plenty of time to grab brunch before exploring town. They seemed very skeptical about making space for us though we tried to be accommodating. They said they could only fit us by sitting us at separate tables which we said was fine. When we asked if we could sit out on the patio they said you can only do takeout outside so we said that was fine and asked for a menu but it was severely reduced to just a few items so we asked to be split up inside like originally planned. They said they would try to get us as close together as possible but ended up on far ends of the restaurant. When we finally got to order, they were out of many things such as chocolate chips & peanut butter… They also didn’t have eggs benedict available to which the waiter kept telling us we “should’ve come earlier bc we ran out of hollandaise at 9:30 am”. Every time somebody tried to order something that was unavailable, we kept being reminded that we should’ve come earlier… When we got our food, much of it was overcooked and dry- the french toast, eggs, etc. They also never came by after the food was delivered to refill our waters. When it was time to check out, our party was split into tables of 4 & 6 but they would only divide the bill in half leaving us with a difficult time parsing out who owed what as they also didn’t itemize the receipt? Finally, some family members tried to use the restroom before leaving and the only option at the sink was water that was so scalding hot it hurt to wash their hands. We left the restaurant about 12:30 pm and people were already getting turned away because they apparently stop serving at 12 though their hours state 1 pm… overall this was a very poor restaurant experience for our extended family while visiting the island. The only positive things I have to say are that the hot sauce shelf was a cool touch and there was one server who treated us with kindness- I can’t remember his name but he was a young guy with longer hair. This restaurant has many excellent reviews online which made us excited to try it but unfortunately it did not live up to expectations for us. I would not recommend coming to this place later in the morning nor would I recommend this place for...
Read moreIsland Skillet was recommended to me by one of my friends and it did not disappoint! We ended up eating here for breakfast/lunch 2 days in a row.
The ham and cheese omelette was good overall. It was very cheesey but the eggs were a little overcooked. It came with a side of hash browns which were perfectly crunchy on the top as well as a side of toast (sour dough) which was delicious. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Breakfast burritos are phenomenal! We tried one with sausage and another with bacon and enjoyed them both. They are stuffed full of eggs, cheese, hash browns and meat of choice. For the price, it's a great deal! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
TBA (turkey bacon avocado) was a lunch time dish. It was a little pricey compared to the breakfast dishes, but was good. We ended up getting a side of Caesar salad which was a good break from sides of fries. The sandwich was stacked, the deli turkey was thick cut and grilled, the avocado was fresh, with cheese, lettuce and tomatoes on sourdough bread. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I ordered a hot chocolate as well. It came in a big cup with whipped cream, I really enjoyed it! ⭐⭐⭐⭐
We really enjoyed Island Skillet and highly...
