First of all, Kudos to the Town of Waterford for attempting to give dog owners a nice, safe, fenced in place for dogs to play and run free! Honestly, I wish that the people who attend the park would return the favor by picking up after themselves! So, the good: -separate area for large and small dogs -nice large area for dogs to run and play -easy to see where your dog is at all times (keep this thought for later) -a few benches for sitting while your dog play if you are so inclined -an area to unleash and leash your dog prior to entering/leaving to avoid "escape" -fence is nice and strong. I did not see any holes referred to in another review but I did not go into the small dog area. The bad: -the grass is worn down to the point of no return. Maybe needed to plant a different variety of grass to hold up to dog stuff? -I went in the winter and my dog was filthy by the time we left. i can't imagine what this place will look like in the Spring! -could have a few more benches located in different places The ugly (and this is 100% on the dog owners who frequent the park): -Clean up after your own dogs, people!!! The grounds were filthy with dog feces! This is completely unsanitary. It is how parasites are spread among dogs, folks. As noted above, it is easy to see your dog at all times so it is not like you can claim that you did not see it happen! Conclusion: In my first visit I was there with 4 other dog owners who were attentive, kind and their dogs seemed to be well groomed and cared for. The grounds were a problem for me and it is unfortunate that many dog owners are so inconsiderate of others. That is probably why many more towns do not offer up space for dogs. Come on, folks, do your part! Other dog owners should self-police and speak up when you see someone not cleaning up after their own animals. I will go back again during the winter months but will steer clear during other times. I will try the parks in Norwich and Groton to see if they are any better. ...
Read moreI was very disappointed I went for the first time today 5/25/2016 and I have 2 Chihuahuas so of course we go in the small dog side first off there was holes in the fences both my babies got it and of course took off I have to get to the opening get through all the gates and the park is next to the road a very busy road I will not be taking my babies there ever again unless there is some serious maintenance and repairing goes on. Took me 45 min to catch then safely and the fact that there is not only holes in the fence around the small play area there us holes in the entrance do if a bigger dog was to come in my boys would have been in the same gate because of all the neglect that place has encountered vet unsafe for female pet owners and very much so not OK please fix...

Both enclosures are spacious. The dog park has double gates. You enter the outer gate and the gates to both enclosures are accessed through two other gates. This allows you to take you dog off leash before entering...
