Gun Lake Casino is turning West Michigan tropical 🌴 The casino has opened their 252 room luxury hotel with a spa. They’ve also opened Wawyé oasis, a tropical paradise with palm trees, 2 pools, a stage and climate control. Paradise, 30 minutes from Grand Rapids. #GunLakeCasino #WestMichigan #GrandRapids

Reserved two nights in Parlor Suite ad a NOT cheap rate per night. Check in time 4:00 p.m. Arrived at 4:30 p.m. to check in, was informed that room was not ready yet and that the cleaning staff needed to wait 30 minutes. Front desk staff had me wait at the lobby bar and gave one free alcoholic beverage per person. After 30 minutes I went to the front desk and they said that the room still was not ready to wait another 30 minutes. Waited for 45 minutes and went back to the front desk again. Was then informed that the room still wasn't ready and that they were going to rush it. Front desk manager gave us two free vouchers for the buffet for the inconvenience. At 7:20 p.m. we were finally assigned a room. Went to the room dropped off things and noticed that the main bathroom was missing toiletries. No big deal because I did have my own things but still the point nonetheless. Also noticed the living room couch to be heavily stained with bodily fluids! Went down to the buffet which we found out closes at 9:00 p.m. . We waited 45 minutes in line just to get a table. Once we got in, we found the food to be mediocre at best given the price point, $50 a person. Got back to the room and went to go take a bath and the water into the bathtub was a green color. Thought this may be a fluke thing so drained it and then refilled it again to which it was still green. Called the front desk and they sent maintenance up to look at it. It took maintenance 30 minutes to arrive. Maintenance confirmed that there was an issue and that they would have to "call it in". Front desk informed us that they only had one other room and that they were going to switch rooms for us. They went up to look at the room to confirm it did not have the same issue, but unfortunately it did as well. Although they could not guarantee it the front desk associate said that I should not drink the water or bathe in it but showering and it should be fine. They did offer to give a 50% discount on the rate for the first night. Then questioned why it was only the first night and not the entire stay since it was going to affect the entire stay. They reluctantly did give us 50% off the entire stay. The next morning we went to breakfast at the sandhill Cafe, again the food was mediocre given the price point. But the saving grace of this interaction was our server, Amber. She asked how the stay was going and we informed her of some of the difficulties we had, she then, unbeknownst to me gave a free buffet meal. Then went to the pool area. They claim this pool area is an oasis and even sell tickets to non-hotel stayer for $30 each for day passes. I found nothing special in this area. The adults only pool was rather cold and had a swim up bar. There was a kids pool but no other attractions or amenities in the area. Very limited seating around the pool area as well. Then ordered lunch, two hot dogs and fries and two sodas for $45 seems slightly expensive, however it is a resort so paying an up charge is typical but again the food just mediocre. There's no reason to come back to the pool area. The pool area also closes at 8:00 p.m. which seems odd for a 24-hour resort. Went to the casino floor, again there's nothing special about the casino and no real draw or attraction to go to it. It's not organized very well and minimal signage. No real attraction to come back to this casino either. Went to dinner at the chop House, this was by far the best meal that we had during our stay. Decided to try to get a late night snack at CBK restaurant, but then finding CBK had a 45 minute wait time and no option for carry out available during that time. Again rather disheartening for a late night / resort style atmosphere. Overall, this stay was disappointing. While the staff was generally friendly and tried to be helpful, the number of issues we encountered (and the lack of full resolution) made the experience frustrating. Unfortunately, it was enough for me to leave this review and walk away with no interest in paying for another stay at this property.

We had booked a balcony room for a stay in may months in advance, got a call a few days ahead that those rooms where not done yet and got offered the room one lower level, we rolled with it and still made the best of it even tho we had construction crew knock on our door saying they were supposed to be working on the room, after some confusion they left as it was exterior work that needed done and wasn’t a big deal to delay it, ate at the Buffett gambled a bit and then when back to the room for the night, around 11pm I heard what sounded like the shower running but my fiancé had already gone to bed for the night, went to investigate and found water pouring from the ceiling, called the desk and they said we’d be moved to another room, gathered our stuff and went down to the desk as nobody had come to room to see what’s happening, talked to guy at the desk, Brian I think, very cool, very understanding, we explained that we booked a balcony and got downgraded and now we are having to move rooms, we live about 5 miles from the casino and we just wanted to get a refund and go home, we did get the refund for the room and went home, a manager called us a day or two later saying that due to how our stay went, they wanted to invite us back and comp the correct room and dinner, it’s been 2 months now and we have not heard anything back, my fiancé has called them about it and we have not been given any updates on it, reason we booked was partly for my birthday and partly to see how it is as we were going to see about a room block for our wedding next year. Sad to see how a offer can be made and then forgotten about, it’s a business I get it, if your gone make a offer to make something right, you need to follow through with it or at least update us. Guess we’ll look into room blocks elsewhere.

We have been visiting GLC for about a year now.

Plus points are the place is always kept VERY clean - employees are wiping down machines hourly, pushing in chairs constantly to keep the place looking nice and avoid tripping accidents, keeping trash receptacles tidy, cleaning carpets, wiping down entrance/exit doors and keeping bathrooms tidy all day long. These things were very important during Covid times and even now. We appreciate a clean place to gamble and this place is great for that.

The staff is EXCELLENT. From guest ambassadors like Pamela handling slot machines issues and payouts, to Kim at the Grab N Go Food court always with a smile even at 1 am, to the valet team including outstanding employees like Cooper, Max, Cam, Charlie, Emily and more, house keeping staff, Rewards Center employees and Guest Services, we just can't say enough good things about the Gun Lake employee family. They are friendly, kind, thoughtful and so very professional. They are as important to us now as the gaming, food and shopping areas are of the place.

Security is strong here and you will see teams around the site all day and night long. They are keeping things safe for employee and visitors alike. We even saw them helping a rather drunk fella get an Uber to get home as he was in no shape to do so himself last night. These security employees are friendly, thoughtful and professional.

The restaurants are good here - we use Grab N Go late at night when others place are closed - the food is home made, priced right and very, very tastey - especially the beef hot dogs, strawberry shortcake treats and home made chocolate chunk cookies! The breakfast sandwiches are far better than fast food joints - taste home made again. Kim at the Grab and Go is easily identifiable with her fun dollar sign necklace and earrings. She is always happy at all hours of the day and night and her happiness helping all of us is a pleasure to see. We also eat at CBK Brewey all the time, Their check in staff are friendly and efficient. The wait staff, bar tenders & even musical guests on the weekend in the summers are super too. Servers like Brett (super fast, smart & fun to talk to), Dillon (speedy & efficient) & others at CBK. The food is VERY good here-really everything we have tried has been yummy so far & seasonal drinks oh so yummy. We have not eaten at the Japanese Steakhouse, but have heard very good things about it.

We play mostly slot machines when we go. People always complain about how often machines are paying out & how much here - machines are "too tight" we hear mumbled. Like many things in life, gambling is a game of LUCK. You will not get lucky even time to go to the casino. If people take time to learn about how machines work, how much they can/should bet and when to stay and when to walk away they will have a much more enjoyable time in a casino. If you are looking for quick cash, this is not the place for you -get a job. Gaming is entertainment and it needs to be enjoyed as such. Smart gamblers always come out ahead in the end - so, put in the time to understand what you are doing. We have fun every time we go.

We are excited to see the expansion going on with the new water park, hotel, and other amenities like more restaurants. We won't get to enjoy these things until 2025, but we are looking forward to when they will be done and in use. Fire Keepers in Battle Creek wins in the overall category of awesome casinos to visit in our area as they have these things already. Gun Lake should be able to rival them and maybe surpass them if they do things as they say they will.

We feel Gun Lake is a great casino - from cleanliness, great employee staffing, food options, slot and table game options and more. I recommend them highly - even though we have not won any majors/grands/bonanza bucks or similar - we enjoy this place tremendously and will continue to go 2-3x a month.

Think how good this review would have been had we had a big win? :-) Even without, it is a fun, fun, fun place. We...

This review is for the oasis. Please see the below of my oasis review for the casino review. The casino gets a five star from me. The hotel gets a five star from me but not the oasis! Here’s my comments and my feedback on the oasis.

We went to hotel and oasis for first time since it opened for my wife’s birthday. We were under the impression that it would be warm and feels like it’s a tropical location, which is very badly needed in Michigan. Also, we thought there was no kids which they did have a pool where the kids are not permitted, but they also had another pool where the kids were permitted and you can here these screaming and yelling. There was a lack of fun music that Would create a feeling that you are in a resort set up There was some music, but it was very bland and doesn’t give you a good Vibe and was drowned by the voice of screaming children. The most disappointing part was the temperature of the water. We were planning on having a full afternoon at the pool drinking and enjoying our time, but the water was cold and did not go in it, when I confronted the lifeguard, they mentioned that the pool is 85° which I told them that no it did not feel like it and when I checked the thermostat which was in the pool, it Was 82°. Which typically is a great temperature if there is sun and the weather outside the pool is warm, however and this is where I think they are failing is regulating the ambient temperature in the oasis so the water feels very cold and doesn’t feel pleasant so to recap. In a nutshell The pool did not feel Warm. We were very excited to have a place like this in Michigan and we were planning on possibly having 2 to 3 trips a year made to get rid of the winter blues that are in Michigan but sadly, I don’t know if I would book again at the hotel although it was very nice when it came to the rooms and decoration of the hotel but the oasis is not pleasant. Obviously there are always these people who doesn’t matter what water temperature they have, but if you are gonna be just chilling in the water, you want warm water and the temperature inside needs to be a few degrees higher. Lastly It’s a shame they charge so much money for these beds. We went there on a Saturday and literally they were all empty. I understand they are in the business of making money and that’s completely fine and they should charge for the beds, but there’s no reason where you need to charge $100 for the bed, especially if you rented a room and you’re staying at the hotel. This place could have so much potential to be a great winter destination, but I would not recommend it to other people till they fix these issues, plain and simple like that.

The post below Which I gave the casino five stars was only for the casino itself. The review above this comment is for the oasis where I changed my review to one star and instead of five.

We’ve been to Green Lake Casino multiple times since it opened. Excuse me my least favorite because it felt there was no interior decoration and it was very planned however, since they have opened the expanded drastically and it looks much much better than it did when they first open. I would definitely like to see more tables available to play, but overall happy with what they...
