I always try to be as positive as possible, but I do feel the need to express my honest (and yes, I'm aware that it's biased) experience. So, take from it what you will. I'll try to be as unbiased as possible, and focus on the good, but because I came home unsatisfied with my overall experience, I must be honest about my feelings as well. I've been researching Titanic since I was a kid. I've been to the Orlando exhibit twice, built a full scale Titanic in Minecraft, won the grand prize at film festival for my "Swede" of Titanic (1997), and I'm a moderator in an active Titanic online community. I was very much looking forward to seeing the Titanic exhibit here, so excited that perhaps I missed seeing the "No Photos" sign on the way in. I wore my Titanic blueprints shirt and posed for a selfie with my son in front of the Titanic blueprints poster. I was immediately approached by a staff member who told me photos weren't allowed. I apologized, pocketed my phone, and proceeded to shrug it off. My bad, after all. But the "conversation" continued as he perhaps felt the need to explain himself, so I attempted to explain myself and said, "No problem, I was wearing the shirt, I thought it'd be nice to get a picture with it. I didn't know you guys don't allow photos. Orlando allowed me to take photos. My bad." The interaction left me trying to calm down so I could enjoy the artifacts. The writings on the walls and the photos aren't really anything new to me, I was mostly there for the artifacts and wanted to take it all in. But I found myself replaying the "conversation" with the employee in my head. It felt that the interaction was a little mishandled because I was left feeling like a miscreant, instead of a history buff and patron. My wife had our four year old, and she ran him through way faster than I was going with my eleven year old. When I felt my text notification, I was terrified to pull my phone out to check it. My eleven year old and I are both high functioning autistic, and we both have a great love for history, learning, and especially in regards to the Titanic. A few rooms in we were analyzing an artifact when a staff member scolded my son, his tone very unforgiving, "No touching!" I looked and saw my son's arm was gingerly resting on the wood of the display case. My son said, "I'm...not touching," he thought he was being lectured for touching the artifact, touching the wood of the display case didn't register to him as "touching." So I told my son to pull his arm back. The staff member walked off. Now my enjoyment was completely disrupted. My brain kept the loop of terrible interactions playing and I tried my best to shift gears as the texts from my wife kept buzzing my pocket. Finally, I asked a passing staff member, "Can I take out my phone to check the texts from my wife, or will get yelled out again?" (I was a little frustrated, but I tried my best to be respectful). He said, "Yes, absolutely!" He introduced himself as the manager and asked me what was going on. I tried to explain the situation to him, he asked if I was taking photos, I told him about the one, he explained it was Titanic people's rule for no photos, I said no problem, I'm fine with the rules and that wasn't the issue. I explained how I felt the staff was treating us as if we came into the place with bad intentions. I continued, pointing to my shirt, that obviously we're only there because we have the best intentions and wanted to enjoy the exhibit. He thanked me for letting him know and we parted ways. He was a very nice gentleman, but it was hard for me to shift gears and enjoy the rest of our time there. I couldn't even bring myself to re-enter the Titanic...

I recently visited the Cox Science Center & Aquarium, and it was an action-packed, educational, and overall enjoyable experience—especially for families with children. However, there are a few things to keep in mind when planning your trip.
🌟 Activities & Exhibits
The center offers a diverse range of STEM activities—we counted at least nine interactive stations, each designed to spark curiosity and hands-on learning. From making paper airplanes to exploring basic physics and engineering principles, kids were thoroughly engaged. At the end of the STEM circuit, every child received a small gift, which was a lovely touch!
One highlight was the live science show titled “It’s Not Magic, It’s Science!”—a fun, crowd-pleasing demonstration that kept both kids and adults entertained while explaining scientific concepts in an accessible way.
Inside the facility, you’ll also find: • A NASA-themed station that was both educational and immersive. • A jumping area for kids to burn off energy indoors. • A colorful lollipop corner that was a favorite among younger visitors. • A baby play zone with soft flooring and color balls, perfect for toddlers and infants. • The aquarium section, which featured a variety of fish, turtles, and what appeared to be baby alligators or a similar small reptile species. It was well-maintained and fascinating to observe.
Another major attraction was the aircraft simulation area, though it was very crowded and had long wait times. It’s clearly one of the more popular spots, so it might be worth visiting early in the day.
🌊 Outdoor Experience
Outside, there’s a splash pad and an open park area, with water misting stations to help guests cool down. However, it was still quite hot, and if you’re visiting during summer months, plan accordingly—sun hats, sunscreen, and hydration are essential.
There was also a birthday party happening in the outdoor section, which seemed well-organized and fun. The venue does appear to accommodate such events nicely.
✅ Cleanliness & Security
Despite the weekend rush, the facility was very clean and well-maintained. Staff were present at almost every major station—friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to assist. We felt safe and secure throughout the entire visit, which is crucial when visiting with small children.
⚠️ Crowds & Timing
Weekends tend to get very crowded, which may lead to longer wait times at popular stations (like the flight simulator). If possible, consider visiting on a weekday for a more relaxed experience. The center is clearly a hotspot for families, especially during peak hours.

💡 Final Thoughts
The Cox Science Center & Aquarium is a fantastic local gem for science-loving families, especially those with kids between 1–10 years old. There’s a solid mix of education, entertainment, and physical activity to keep children engaged for hours. Just be prepared for the heat if you’re spending time outdoors, and expect large weekend crowds. Still, the overall experience was fun, safe, and enriching—we’ll definitely be back!
