This park used to be named Royal Palm Park. It had it's named changed in 1990 to honor George Petty, a Palm Beach resident and Canadian paper magnate. Some residents weren't too happy to have a park named after someone they considered an outsider. Petty used $750,000 of his money to start the Good Neighbor Council, a group that focused on fighting noise from the airport. The park is a strip of land in the historic 1920's Prospect Park neighborhood that runs from Washington Ave to the Intracoastal. This park used to sit directly under the flight path of planes traveling to and from West Palm Beach Airport. As a result take offs and landings were fanned over the city instead of concentrated over this one neighborhood.
This park does not have a parking lot, you have to park on the street, It does have a small playground and benches but it's best amenity is the view of the Intracoastal. You can see Mar-a-Lago is across from the park along with other Palm Beach mansions. The houses in this neighborhood aren't too shabby either.
