She finaly come back to our table and asked what we want... I asked her if they have any lunch special and she said you have the menu on your hand and nothing else so I decide to order french toast eggs and bacon and my friend order burger with fries, no thank you and still no drink....she go back at the other table with the drink so I stopped her and asked for our drink and she said I be back....she come back like 5 minutes after and drop our drinks, coffee is so small ($2.75) and she never refill it and coke ($2.95) for my friend . Read moreThink for a moment about your favorite diner food -- say country fried steak, for example. Now, try to imagine what it would taste like if it were prepared under the supervision of a fine chef with 20 years' experience on Palm Beach. Think about the steak, lightly coated and delicately fried. Think about how perfectly seasoned and creamy the white sauce on the steak would be, instead of being a glop of glue. Think about buttery mashed potatoes freshly made. Think about vegetables prepared by someone who understands vegetables -- done to a turn, rather than scooped out of a steam tray. Perfection. This is City Diner.
I wasn't prepared for what I found at City Diner. Google Maps dutifully sent me there when I asked it for a diner. When I looked at the menu, the prices said, "Uh oh, they've gone upscale." You've seen those places: diners that have decided to Try Something New, and they still call themselves diners, but they start to put shaved truffles into dishes and double their prices. The prices at City Diner aren't bad -- 8 or 9 dollars for most meals, plus beverage -- just a little higher than one is used to. So I stayed and ordered. And enjoyed.
The beautiful thing about City Diner is that they stay with standard diner fare, but they just do it better. No truffles, no entrees sitting in a puddle of sauce, no sauces squirted over the top in artistic patterns. This is diner food. Great diner...
Read moreJust changed my review to a 1 star. Lost a customer today. Went in for breakfast and they were busy as usual. They sat two gentlemen before us in a booth, no problem. Another booth opens up, same size, and they tell us they are going to check outside for seating. My husband says he would prefer inside and can we have the booth that just opened up. They say no, they want to save it for a bigger party. The party behind us says they want to sit outside and she says they have nothing open outside so my husband says "can we sit in the booth then?" and the lady says no. Fine, a potential customer was more important to that moron than two paying customers standing in front of her. Keep your booth, we wont ever be back.
Their dinners are better than breakfast anyway, their stuff is overpriced for breakfast items but its a fun atmosphere unless you get garbage service with a crap attitude then its just not worth it. The fact two guys were sat right before us in a booth of the same size but all the sudden we were not worthy of being sat is what did it, there is no logical reason for her excuse and she must just like to power trip. Have fun with that, I will be telling others to skip...
