My fiance & I frequent the fort quite regularly, walking our dogs from our house since it's only 2 city blocks away. I gave it 5 stars just because of the history I can imagine and have read it holds. The signs that regale its historical significance and the benches, as well as the walkways do indeed need some updating and/or replacing. My favorite detail is that you can see from in front of the fort facing towards Noorth 18th Street, the doctors house that all the wounded soldiers were carried to be medically attended to by the doctor that lived there. And from that period only doctors have resided in that house. The current doctor in residence now is Dr. Ivan Slavich and his family. I just love that tidbit of information. So, check it out. Though there's not a lot of things to see....just a few cannons, artillery, ammunition, and the fort itself, just bring your imagination after you've read up on it and I believe you, too, will enjoy & appreciate Fort Tyler as...
Read moreGreat small tourist spot!! Right on the Alabama and Georgia line. It's a great piece of history!! I love how it's an eagle scout project and how the scouts preserved the forts history. Along the trail there are various educational plaques that tell you history facts about the fort and the civil war. The fort is easy to get to. Park at the bottom and walk on the paved path. The path twists around to the top of the hill were the bunker is. There are replicas of cannons and a restructure of the wood barriers around the fort. The trails are well maintained and the locals keep and eye on it to make sure there is no damages etc. The cemetery related to fort Tyler is a 4 min drive away. Definitely worth to see a small...

In my opinion, they should actually charge an entrance fee, and protect it from potential vandalism. I would not have minded paying a small amount to get it. Walking up that little hill was...
