FALSELY ACCUSED OF A PACK OF NAPKINS HEIST! Where do I begin? Ikea has been a go-to retailer for many years for many of our household projects. On Monday, November 28, 2023, my wife and I visited the Sacramento Ikea for various items. After self-scanning all of our items and getting ready to pay, a BIG "Random Spot Check" notice appeared on our screen. An employee rushed to our check out and scanned 7 items, then he said he had to scan ALL of our items. He finally said that we had scanned only one package of napkins instead of 2! I found that very odd, since I was the only one scanning, and my wife was bagging. I know self check out can be a source of problems for retailers, so I am VERY careful and methodical when I scan. This process was taking so long, my exhausted wife had to go wait in our car while I dealt with the check out problems. When we returned home I checked each and every item we purchased, and discovered that my ORIGINAL scanning had been CORRECT, and Ikea overcharged me $ 1.11!!! Imagine that! Here's a "thought", why not print out the receipt at the point just before the customer inputs the credit card, and then physically check off the items against the paper receipt with one of those short Ikea pencils, instead of wiping out the original tally and rescanning every item? That way they would have an accurate "snapshot" of what the customer says he purchased versus what was bagged? ANOTHER thought....bring the check-out employees back! This last experience REALLY soured us on ever returning to Ikea, especially since they never even bothered to reply to my letter I sent them immediately after this incident. And now the 5% Members Discount goes away in February 2024??
