Chophouse Barber Company — Attraction in West University Place

This was my first time coming in. I came in because the reviews are off the charts! My appointment was with JP. Now get this: I mistakenly came in a day early. JP came out and greeted me (insanely friendly) and apologized for not showing the appointment on his end. That’s when I realized that I made a mistake. He had a conflict so he couldn’t take me and then introduced me to Tyson who is a complete rock star in my book. Before JP left, he kept apologizing for not being to take me as my appointment was actually the next day. I was the one who should have been apologizing, not him.

Anyway, the vibe at the Chophouse is incredible! It is so obvious every barber there loves working there. The interaction between them all, the way they interacted with one another AND the customers was spectacular. And Tyson ... he is insanely friendly, meticulous and methodical in how he cuts hair. I can’t believe I’m going on and on about a haircut, but let me say this ... I found my new place to get my haircut. And from what I could tell, every barber there is truly great at their craft! I will of course come back looking for Tyson, as he gave me the best haircut I’ve ever had. That said, I do want to have JP cut my hair at least once, as he appears to be the Maestro of the place, as I’m sure his business partner is too. Last comment is that I should mention that I actually live in Austin and come to Houston MAYBE once a month ... but after the experience I just had, rest assured that I would go out of my way to make the drive even if I didn’t have plans to come to Houston once a month.

You only get one chance to set a good first impression ... and gentlemen, you ALL crushed it! ...

I’ll start off by saying I generally like this barber shop. The guys are all nice and it looks like they all treat their craft pretty seriously. However, it seems like the past 4-5 haircuts here have been subpar at best. I will not name drop but I will say that I have been serviced by a specific person 2 times within the past few months. On the first cut, the sides were uneven and cut way too high up on my head after I described the cut I wanted. Maybe my fault for not being more clear. During that cut, he used the machine clippers on my neck and snagged my skin probably 20 times and I was left with scabs all over the back of my neck. I figured it’s part of it and part of getting the hairs in that area. Although I shave myself with clippers and rarely ever see blood. At any rate, he also asked if I wanted my eyebrows trimmed. I said ok sure. My eyebrows looked like somebody shot me with a flamethrower. Uneven, patchy, and I lost ALL my thickness. Fast forward to this week. I wanted an edge up and showed reference photos and specifically described what I wanted. Cut seems to go well and I pay and leave. I start inspecting the cut in more detail. The left and right side of my head look like I gave 2 different barbers vague instructions on what I wanted, and they ended up doing 2 different styles. Also the back looked nothing like what I showed the barber. Maybe it’s my hair idk. But I do know that an edge up should be manageable and I do know that the left and right side of your head should look the same especially with a pushed back symmetrical hairstyle. Anyway, no hate. But I probably will not...

Our flight was canceled on Saturday because of the storms. The next available flight was on Monday and the airport had our bags with our grooming kits. We searched for local barbers and only a couple of options popped up for Sunday. We scheduled an appointment with Chophouse Barbers on Weslayan St, since they were closer to our hotel. Quincy greeted us upon entering and we received exceptional service from beginning to end. His attention to detail and skill-set are top notch!

Quincy did an great job on my haircut. He asked the right questions to be sure he understood exactly what I wanted and he executed above expectations. Quincy makes an experience out of his haircuts and shave. I recommend requesting Quincy to anyone. You will not be disappointed!
