Abyss Pool. Abyss Pool is a hot spring in the West Thumb Geyser Basin of the Yellowstone, one of the tourist objects along the West Thumb Geyser Basin trail. This is not a big one or a special one compare to another geyser nearby but what we can see in this pool is colorful water that so stunning, and the pool gets its distinctive hue color from a combination of algae, minerals and the depth of its waters. The depth is about 48 feet (16 m) with a water temperature of 181°F (83°C).

I was probably the only person out of the 30-40 standing around the pool that decided to stand directly in the path of the fog, and honestly I have no regrets. My clothes got a bit damp, but it was July so I wasn't much worried about drying off. Feeling the heat diffusing throughout the air gave me a good perspective on just how hot that pool...
