Abyss Pool. Abyss Pool is a hot spring in the West Thumb Geyser Basin of the Yellowstone, one of the tourist objects along the West Thumb Geyser Basin trail. This is not a big one or a special one compare to another geyser nearby but what we can see in this pool is colorful water that so stunning, and the pool gets its distinctive hue color from a combination of algae, minerals and the depth of its waters. The depth is about 48 feet (16 m) with a water temperature of 181°F (83°C). The location is near the lake when you stand on the trail you can see the combination of beauty both of colorful pool and the lake. So do not miss to watch this pool if you walk along the trail.

Accurately named for sure... You'd need scuba gear and some imaginary sci-fi thermal suit to find the bottom of this one! The amount of steam rolling off this pool was amazing. I was probably the only person out of the 30-40 standing around the pool that decided to stand directly in the path of the fog, and honestly I have no regrets. My clothes got a bit damp, but it was July so I wasn't much worried about drying off. Feeling the heat diffusing throughout the air gave me a good perspective on just how hot that pool must have been!

It’s another hot pool in a park filled with hot pools. It is super pretty and it’s one of the lesser visited areas and there’s a pretty good pathway built around the thumb basin. It’s worth a stop.

One of the many must visit sites within the park. This particular "look" is not repeated at any of the other main geyser basins. The rest of the area is unique because it is next to the lake, but the best geyser basin is the Norris Geyser Basin on the western side of the park. Its extremely active and is spread out over...
