We got a really cool perspective on this little cone; a park ranger happened to be walking by while we were spectating the small pool and he decided to stop and tell us a story... Apparently, way back in the day the West Thumb Geyser Basin was a popular spot to cast a line and catch some fish. One day, as the legend goes, a fisherman was casting out on the not yet named fishing cone and reeled in a nice size trout. While he was unhooking the trout, the poor fish wrangled out of his hands down into the boiling pool below. After some difficult maneuvering, the fisherman was able to retrieve the trout and found that it was perfectly cooked from the small geyser at his feet! From this point on it would forever be know as the "fishing cone" as it provides a place to fish, cook, and sit to enjoy your meal.
