They made my 5 foot tall daughter take a swim test before getting in the 3.5 foot lazy river, lifeguards canāt decide what the rules are and are whistle happy.
One guard blew her whistle at my daughter to sit in the inner tube with legs above water even though she had already been floating around the river twice with legs below water that the other guard had no problem with, especially since she had a green wrist band and passed the āswim testā š.
One guard at the entrance of lazy river shoved us out of the river for break time. She didnāt stop me to use her words so I could gather my child and exit politely, she quite literally shoved me.
They blew their whistle for my husband taking our son, that was in one of THEIR flotation devices, on the other side of the rope to get out of the crowd of people. My son canāt touch bottom in 3.5 feet, whatās the difference in 4 feet of water? Especially with my 6 foot tall husband holding onto him the entire time on either side of the rope.
Female lifeguards wearing thong bikinis which is inappropriate.
Water slide in the pool area was closed due to ānot enough staffā then opened for the last 20 minutes of the day when the amount of staff had not changed the entire time we were there from 3-6 pm.
A child pooped in the splash pad area and a lifeguard took his time to clear the pad and clean it up. Also overheard another female lifeguard getting upset with him for how long he was taking, as itās a health and safety risk.
And last but not least, there was a very large person visiting this day that was wearing a suit because she wanted to enjoy the water like everyone else and at the end of the day when everyone was leaving, this patron was in the handicap parking spot just in ear shot of where the guards were in the bathroom/shower area that were LAUGHING AND GOSSIPING about the persons size and inability to āwalk normalā and also not just her, what other patrons chose to wear as well. Some people do have religious beliefs and medical conditions that are the cause for their mobility/size and what they can and cannot wear.
Iāll wrap it up to say this was the first and last time weāll be there. It wouldāve been an enjoyable trip had the young staff not been so very...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe facility is adequate; however there aren't enough shady areas for those of us who prefer not to develop melanoma. This was my first visit and it was absolutely awful. Patrons of color were routinely singled out for any number of reasons. A group of young black boys were immediately targeted upon entry and treated harshly for their entire visit, despite the fact that they were acting no differently than other patrons of the same age. My party had several unpleasant experiences with the lifeguards and witnessed several more. One particular lifeguard, Hunter, is a problem. He behaves more like a police officer than a lifeguard. He is very arrogant and seems to only notice infractions or problems when they involve people of color. Similar infractions committed by white patrons were largely ignored or went unnoticed altogether. As this is a public, tax-payer supported facility, this behavior is particularly troubling. When brought to the attention of administrators on site, their response was even more troubling. One literally tried to hide from us, not once, but twice, and the other remained completely silent, offering neither solace, nor apology. If this were a private facility, I'd make it a point never to return; however it is a public facility and all patrons should be able to enjoy it equally, so I will return, if only to be a watchdog and call out racism and discrimination whenever I see it. I encourage other patrons of color to do the same. If you walk away, the bigots win and you're still paying for it with your hard earned money. Demand respect, demand equal treatment, and take to task anyone who treats...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOur visit to Winston Water Works was a complete disaster from start to finish. We drove nearly two hours with a group of nine, eager to enjoy a day at the splash pad, only to find it closed without any prior notice on the website. This level of unprofessionalism is simply unacceptable.
Upon arrival, we were met with extreme rudeness from the lady at the front desk taking payments. Customer service clearly isn't a priority here.
The condition of the dressing rooms was appalling. We found used sanitary pads stuck to the walls, which is not only disgusting but also a serious health hazard. This indicates a severe lack of cleanliness and attention to maintenance.
The lazy river, another major attraction, was unclean. Debris and dirt were floating throughout, making what should have been a relaxing experience thoroughly unpleasant.
The main pool was so overcrowded that it was impossible to swim. You could barely turn around without bumping into someone. This overcrowding poses serious safety risks and detracts from any enjoyment.
To make matters worse, we witnessed people screaming at a lifeguard. While the lifeguard handled the situation with grace, it speaks volumes about the chaotic and poorly managed environment of the park.
Adding insult to injury, my child failed the swim test by just six seconds and was not allowed to retake it. This rigid policy is incredibly discouraging and seems unnecessarily harsh for young swimmers.
Overall, Winston Water Works failed spectacularly in providing a safe, clean, and enjoyable experience. We will not be returning, and I strongly advise others to avoid...
