Read moreThis is a nice park separately located from where the deer Mountain parkers. It is located closer to where the 7-Eleven is across the street. There is 1 Main Rd. that traverses the whole park although there are several places you can pull off and park in parking lots. Hiking here is a Good distance as there are many places you will see along your hike. If you start at the bottom you can take all the way up along the fence line by the reservoir which will eventually take you all the way up to the edge of the cliff where they have built the condominiums. There's also a pond here and an observatory at the very top. Among the things you'll see other than the regular birds you also see turkeys and deer. ( Especially since Clifton in its greed for taxes has allowed half the mountain to be torn down ruining the habitat for the deer.) The observatory at the top is a great place to visit and look out over Patterson and Clifton. The observatory is something I've never actually been in as it is never open when I go up there. There is even a meeting once a month or so for UFO...

My family and I have been taking our now 5 mo old puppy to this park and we've NEVER had an experience like the following before this evening. Our experience with the park goers (usually friendly) and facility(spacious and clean) has always been positive until today.
A couple (latino male and female) in a burgundy/red trailblazer or suburban with tinted windows parked and watched us playing with our dog. The man, who remained in his car, asked if our dog was for sale to which my brother said no. And instead of just taking that answer and leaving they proceeded to slowly roll by dog park, making eye contact and observing with us until they left Rifle camp entirely. IT WAS VERY CREEPY AND SUSPICIOUS!!
This whole situation is sad because this was our favorite park that felt safe as we made lots of friends here. But now I'm concerned about ever returning. So please visit...
