TL;DR I regret choosing this venue due to it being way TOO HOT to enjoy. We got married 11/11/22 at Cross + Main and after searching for any review that matched my experience, decided to write my own when Carley did not respond to my email asking for answers. Whatever season/day you choose, please be aware that management will not control the temperature in this building. I arrived at 9am and the temperature in the back rooms (bridal suite, grooms suite, bathrooms, and Winslow room) was 72 degrees. Even after asking the venue owner Multiple times to Please turn the air down myself because my mom, bridesmaids, and vendors all agreed it was hot. It felt closer to 80. Our getting ready outfits were long sleeved, my dress was heavy crochet lace and tulle, nothing about my wedding was planned for the entire day being 72 degrees. There was a tropical storm, and the humidity outside was ridiculous with no refuge anywhere in the building. The owner kept insisting that “its on / i can feel it blowing / oh im so cold / youre going to freeze your guests” even as I was sweating out of -MY- WEDDING DAY MAKEUP! Then a bridesmaid tells me later that she kept turning it back up when I wasnt in the room!!! Extremely rude and careless in my opinion!!!! I couldnt get ready in the bridal suite because it felt well over 80 in there. The owner yelled at one of my bridesmaids and tried to insist they all stay in the bridal suite because they had a glass of wine when it was sweltering in there and like I said-I had to get ready in Winslow Room! So they even tried to isolate the bride! I wanted out of my dress so desperately, I rushed through pictures, I yelled at family, and I regret choosing this venue. They also double booked us after telling us weeks out that we could set up the day before after our rehearsal dinner. We found out the day of that they had an event after our rehearsal and all the set up would have to be the same day-which turned out fine but not the kind of surprise change of plans you want 24 hours out from your wedding. I am honestly just saddened and confused as all other reviews seem to have had a vastly different experience. The management seemed inconsiderate of our wishes (and where was Carley who I corresponded with the entire time?) Why did this happen to us? I gave one star because the venue itself is beautiful and the pictures turned out fine...but management really dropped the ball on our big day. They could at the very least have returned my correspondence asking...
Read moreI got married here this February. I picked this venue for the price and location as it was convenient for a lot of mine and my now husband's family. I also loved the brick and the venue itself is beautiful.
The low rating is due to the fact there was a lot of miscommunication and misrepresentation. When touring the venue we were told we could set up the night before during our rehersal time. This was not the case as they had a wedding booked the night before. My wedding was on a Saturday and I had to do my rehersal on Thursday. There was a weight watchers meeting going on during this time which was not disclosed to me beforehand.
We had to set up the day of. Originally we were not going to be able to set up until 1230 pm for my 4 pm wedding but due to all the miscommunication on their end they let us come in one hour early. Which still really wasn't enough time.
I really do not think they had enough servers for the number of guest.
There are a few other things but you get the point.
We had an amazing dj and guest so we still had a blast. My photographer is incredible and the venue is beautiful so I am happy with our photos. The food was really good as well.
However, I would have to say that if I could do it over again I would pick a different venue for a less stressful start to the day. This venue is more affordable than most in the area but you have to use rocky top catering. So when you factor in the cost of their catering you might be better off picking the more expensive venue that allows you more time for a smoother day.
Edit: In response to whoever responded to my review. I was not informed that weight watchers would be sharing my rehersal time with me as they have an ongoing reservation. In fact I was told that I could have the venue Friday morning because there was a wedding Friday evening. Which I was surprised because the girl who showed me the venue said my rehersal would be Friday evening for a Saturday wedding. I couldn't do my rehersal friday morning so I was offered Thursday evening because they didn't have an event scheduled according to them. That would of been the time to tell me although no event that weight watchers would be there. The person who showed me the venue was different then the girl I coordinated with. Then there was a completely different women there the day off. Poor communication and management all around with no one willing to...
Read moreI normally don't write out reviews unless they are 100% positive, but I think with a wedding venue for other brides, I'd like to share a full perspective so someone can make a decision on spending a lot of money on a venue with all the knowledge. The other lower reviews were pretty much spot on to our experience.
I will say the positives here are that the venue is gorgeous, lighting...etc. photos are stunning in, and the wait staff members/culinary are phenomenal. Truly, I wish I had brought even more of a tip for them. They deserved it, my daughter got sick at the wedding, they got her a bucket and a trash bag. They were very kind throughout.
Cons- Upon arrival, nothing was ready. We were pounding on all the doors just to even get in, and I paid for extra time to get into the space. The event manager seemed to have no sense of urgency. We ended up moving most things to get it into place ourselves upon arrival, when a layout was gone over well in advance. I was assured it would all be in place, but it wasn't.
The floor was very dirty. Looked like it hadn't been swept or mop in a long time. My daughters gown almost immediately was covered in black dirt from how dirty the floor was.
The event manager didn't unlock the doors for my guests to enter, so people were waiting outside for 30+ minutes and our event started late. The groom had to track down the event manager to get the doors unlocked. We spent a lot of time trying to track her down pretty much the whole time.
They didnt have the arch up that we had requested and was shown to us as an option in our tour. Another thing that was in the layout and confirmed well in advance. There seems to be a lack of communication between the tour I did with Carol, the confirmation of details with Jordan, and the execution by the event manager because they had no idea of anything.
I didnt get any dessert they brought out the donut station then packed it up right after.
And like other reviews, lord was it hot. So hot it made my daughter and me sick. We couldnt enjoy dancing a lot of guests had to exit and stand outside.
Did our wedding turn out lovely? Yes, I'd say in spite of everything. If I could do it over again, would I book another...
