Parque Rodo is one of the most famous attractions around Punta carretas. It is huge and has beautiful scenic views. One side of which faces the rambla (and a beautiful beach). The other side is towards the city. Many bars and clubs also happen to be around this place. If you go on a Sunday , you may even happen to walk into a big event (gastronomic, electronic music festivals, rallies, shows, cultural exhibitions are all examples of events I've attended here). There are paddle boats to rent to cruise the lake, one of MVD's best beaches is nearby, and certainly the best pizza in town (Trancio d'Italia) is on the fringe.
