First visit= Stayed here recently. The lobby is beautiful and gives a great first impression. The staff at check-in were very friendly and helpful, even sharing some useful local tips. Breakfast was okay. Unfortunately, the rooms really need an update — it feels like stepping into the 1980s. Everything looks old and worn out. The biggest disappointment was the gym. It’s extremely outdated, barely usable, and honestly feels unsafe. Even prisons might have better fitness facilities. Overall, great staff and lobby, decent breakfast, but the rooms and gym seriously need renovating.
=Second visit. We waited 1.5 hours past check-in for our family suite. When we finally got the key, the room looked like it had been “cleaned” by someone in a hurry to catch a flight: no towels, cigarette ashes on the floor, carpets unvacuumed, limescale decorating every bathroom surface, and a shower tap that doubled as a grip-strength exercise. Furniture? Let’s just say “vintage” and leave it at that. At the pool (first day): no towels (apparently “coming in 15 minutes” — still missing an hour later), cloudy water, and loungers in various states of disrepair. The bar opens whenever it feels like it, and menus are optional — instead, you get a live reading of the day’s offerings. Asked for an iron twice during our 3-night stay… it must still be on its way. Check-out day brought the biggest surprise: apparently, in this hotel, once you check out of your room, you also check out of your right to sit by the pool. We were told to vacate our loungers at noon — something I’ve never experienced in any hotel. I asked for the Manager. He heroically… stayed hidden. Instead the receptionist was going back and forth from the office. Luggage “storage” is just your bags sitting in a corner by reception — self-service, of course. Got them back ourselves. Credit where it’s due: the receptionists, pool staff, and housekeepers are friendly and try hard. Sadly, management makes their job impossible.
This place calls itself 4-star, but even 3-star hotels would blush. If you can spend a little more, do it elsewhere. Your patience...
Read moreWe picked this hotel on advice of our local travel agent because it's located nearby a shopping center. We planned to stay there for 2 nights.||Check in went smoothly. The front desk ladies were nice. When we entered the room, it's hot. Tried the aircon button, nothing. Called the front desk, they sent a housekeeping lady who explained in somewhat limited English that the hotel aircon is off so we had to open the windows. WHAT???||We talked to the front desk about it and they said, "If after returning from your tour the room is still hot, we'll change the room". Off we go on our tour. When we returned, sure enough the room was still hot . They had a new shift at the front desk and they knew the issue, so they helped us find another room. Three rooms later, now they put us in a suite, we thought it was not as hot as the previous 3. All this time, a front desk staff took us around to check all the rooms. Later the Duty Manager called and explained that for the months of March-April-May the hotel's central aircon is switched off. Why? The management's policy. WHAT???||We're tired so we settled but couldn't sleep that night, the room was too warm for us. Opening the windows didn't help a bit.||The room was depressingly dark, not enough lighting. The furniture was old and the leather on the sofas is already torn. Reminds me of cheap motel, certainly not a Mercure. Bathroom lacked of good lighting. Entering the bathtub is dangerous due to its weird design and position. throughout of this the hotel staff did their best to make us feel comfortable, they were really understanding and helpful but can't do nothing about the aircon.||Their gym, on the other hand, was well-lit, cool enough and had complete equipment.||First thing in the morning we spent calling nearby hotels, including the nextdoor Marriott Bab Ezzouar, and asked if their aircon was also switched off. Answer: "No, ours is on!".|After a sad breakfast with very limited menu, we checked out and moved to next door Marriott where we were given a beautiful...
Read moreI recently stayed at Mercure and while there were some positive aspects, there were a few disappointments that I believe the management should address. First, the room was quite dark making it difficult to read or work comfortably. Additionally, there were not enough electrical outlets to even charge my laptop/phone conveniently. Another issue was the gym, which lacked the basic equipment one would expect for a proper workout.
On a positive note, the reception staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. Their warm welcome and helpful attitude made parts of my stay more pleasant. Overall, I appreciate the hospitality but would encourage the hotel to improve the lighting, add more electrical outlets in the rooms, and update the gym facilities.
Update – May 2025:
Unfortunately, my most recent stay at Mercure Algiers was disappointing and far below expectations. I was visiting for a business trip and had planned to stay the entire week, based on a previous experience that, while not perfect, was at least decent.
This time, things went downhill from the start. I had booked one night via all.accor, but upon arrival, I was unexpectedly asked to pay an additional 3,000 DZD, with no clear explanation. I decided to let that go, but what followed was unacceptable.
The room was unclean and visibly neglected, with even the kettle dirty, which made me question the overall hygiene standards. The environment felt uncomfortable and unwelcoming, not at all suitable for rest or work.
Given this experience, I unfortunately had to cancel the rest of my stay and find accommodation elsewhere. I sincerely hope the management takes this...
