Hotel La Barca — Hotel in Autonomous City of Buenos Aires

During my December 2011 trip to Buenos Aires I booked one night at the La Barca Hotel. Hotel manager Graciela was very friendly and helpful. She gave me some great advice of what to visit and even slugged my heavy suitcase up the stairs. The room was clean and comfortable with free Internet access. The location was very convenient, right near the Alberti subway station on the A Line. The only thing is that the neighbourhood seems a bit dicy at night, the streets are very dark and people on the bus advised me to be careful in the neighbourhood. I would suggest to take a cab at night (instead of a bus) that drops you off directly in front of the hotel. It’s very much a case of you get what you pay for. If you are used to western standards - do not come to this hotel. Shower floor was cracked, the tap fell off when I went to turn the shower off. The toilet had a brown stain on it (do not want to know what that could be). |When we left for the day and arrived back, there was an extra bed in the room. Did we have company? Who knows? Hotel/hostel a buen precio que supera expectativas Es una enorme casa antigua reformada,a 15 minutos del centro, que funciona como hostel y hotel a la vez. El desayuno, a elegir (nosotros café con leche, suficiente para 2 por persona, y tostadas, más el dulce del día), te lo llevan a la habitación a la hora que elijas de 8 a 10, y lo puedes tomar en la mesita que hay en cada habitación, o en las salas comunes que hay en el patio interior. Hay tanto habitaciones y baños para compartir, como habitaciones con baño privado como la nuestra, todas con toallas, sábanas, jabón y shampoo. Recepción 24 horas y con todo el personal muy atento y simpático. Si bien yo señalé en la web de reserva que queríamos una habitación con cama de matrimonio y aire acondicionado, me preguntaron a la llegada porque a ellos no les aparecía, y no tenían disponible, pero nos la cambiaron al día siguiente sin problema ni costo. Aún así la primera habitación (11, planta baja y con ventilador de techo, baño privado y bien equipado, y con espacio suficiente para juntar las 2 camas y dormir cómodamente en pareja) era muy fresca. Idem la segunda habitación (110) ya en la 2ª planta y con aire acondicionado (pequeño cargo adicional por este servicio, pero en Buenos Aires y en verano, necesario). Heladeras en las 2 plantas que limpian cada noche, por si quieres guardar algo de comida y bebida.
