Cardwell Beachcomber Motel Tourist Park Cardwell — Hotel in Cardwell

We were so looking forward to staying in this park. We had specifically booked a slab site at the beginning of April and were told there are more slabs than grass. When we got there they had put us on a grass site. When we enquired if we could move we were told the park was fully booked. We had to go and buy a cheap floor mat. Two days later 6 slab sites were still empty in front of us so we went to enquire why we couldn’t have moved. We were told our van was too big (18ft) however there were 2 vans a lot bigger than us including a huge motorhome on the sites. When we asked how come bigger vans than ours were on there we were told if we are unhappy we could get a refund (not sure whether it would have been a credit or whether it was for 1 night only) if we packed up now and left. This was on our last day at approx 12pm in the pouring rain had it been day 1 we would have done it for sure. Our neighbours in the Park also just couldn’t understand why the Management did what they did it just didn’t make sense. We are sadly giving up caravanning through ill health but we had intended to return to use the cabins in the future – not now and our friends in 3 vans who are travelling now and were considering coming to this park will be giving the Park a miss. Our family booked 3 villas, 2 poolside and 1 ocean view from 23rd to 29th Dec. While the staff were friendly their standard of clean left a lot to be desired. There was a pair of shorts clearly visible left under a bed in the ocean villa while others were trying to keep cockroaches and ants out of their food and belongings. When mentioned to reception they apologised and said it was because of all the rain they have had up there lately and were given a pest spray. The cockroaches were a problem getting into a suitcase too so our family went and purchased cockroach baits themselves. When they left you could clearly see where the cockroaches had been so the family left the baits there. |After a couple of days I went to reception to ask for more sugar and tea bags but was told they were complimentary and people staying longer had to get their own. There were 4 adults in our villa so 5 or 6 tea bags was never going to be enough even for a couple of days. I was told they would give us more but we never saw them. With the cost of staying there especially over Christmas I would have thought they could spare a few tea bags and sugar. |There were 7 of us in the ocean villa which sleeps up to 7 but only had a towel rack for 2 towels so we asked if we could get a portable clothes rack which they did supply as well as...
