Cardwell Beachfront Motel — Hotel in Cardwell

Older building, but clean, well priced, and staffed by nice people. Super location next to the water, but crocs inhabit the area so don't plan on going swimming unless it's in their pool. An outdoor table with a couple chairs for each room was a really nice touch, giving you somewhere to hang out outside when the weather is nice.

There was a fridge, microwave and kitchen sink in our room, and some basic kitchen supplies like plates, cups, utensils, etc. Wifi worked fine on our phones, but we couldn't stream shows on the TV for some reason. That gave us the opportunity to experience Aussie commercials, which can be pretty funny, and just as repitious as they are in the US. 😂

As long as you don't need silk sheets and 5 star accommodations, this place will do great for an overnight, or long stay. Plus, they have a nice cat that wanders around and...

Why was it excellent????? Mainly because of the hosts Janet and Steve. THE most hospitable, welcoming, accommodating and professional hosts. Secondly because of the location - beachfront (looking straight out at Hinchinbrook Island), fabulous walking path, proximity to shops and cafes. Room 6 is divine with its private balcony overlooking the ocean, cooking facilities and spaciousness. It has a hint of seclusion about it. This room is soooooo well appointed !!!!!! Bright and cheery - and the view !!!!! If you choose, there’s a quiet social gathering with Janet and Steve, and other guests most nights around 5 that is casual, warm and welcoming. Wanted this motel to be more than it can be. Right on the A1 and very close to the water but cannot see the water. Or hear it. Table outside the sliding glass door is not private at all but the table was large. We used it for two meals. Rooms plain but clean and light was OK but a stronger bulb would have been nice. The LED bulbs were 5000K which is not nice. Kitchenette works but they should look at the tools and frying pan and replace those that are wall overdue. No way to turn an egg unless a thick bamboo rice paddle is what you use at home. I don't. So, it worked as a place to get some sleep but I would much rather found the Beachcomer that is just down the road. Looked much nicer to us. Finally, management was nice and no problems...
