Mitchell On Main — Hotel in Gippsland

Didn’t even stay the night. Left after 3 hours (2 of which were spent at dinner). Arrived to find the room not as shown in the (poorly taken) photos. Looked like a cheap 70s honeymoon suite, complete with spa bath right next to the bed. Despite being a non smoking room, the room smelt of smoke due to the table and chairs outside the room where guests smoke. Clearly the smoke is coming in through the window and seeping into the room. The mattress was broken. The springs were popping out the side. We asked if there was another mattress or something to help. The manager kindly gave us another doonah that we placed under the sheet along with other blankets and a pillow. This did not help. We were told there was a foam mattress topper to make it more comfortable. The topper was so thin we didn’t even notice it at first and had no density to it. The shower could be seen from the bed and there was nowhere to change clothing in privacy. The tv didn’t work at all and neither did the lights located near the bed. Not bedside lamps - not only was there no bedside lamp there also was no bed side table - these lights were on the wall with (presumably) the light switch located a metre from the bed. Requiring you to fully get out of bed and walk to them in order to turn the light on. Neither of these two lights worked. As the bed was raised up on a step, this felt like a hazard waiting to happen. The plates, cutlery, kettle and toaster were located under the bathroom sink. The fridge was also located in the bathroom. Would never stay here again. Would never recommend anyone stay here. The room was so bad that despite having travelled from Bega to Bairnsdale that day and arriving at 6pm, we chose to repack the car, drive another 50 minutes to Sale and book another room arriving at 10:30pm. Thankfully to a room that was paradise compared to what we had left. And...

I would have scored this place higher, but there are a few things that have held me back. Firstly, the sign in the room that asks you to wash your own dishes, this is a motel not a self contained unit. There is no sink apart from the bathroom sink. Does this mean that the people before me washed the cups in the bathroom sink?? This is not acceptable and probably the main reason I will not stay here again while traveling through this area. I am always “on the road” and have never been expected to wash my own coffee cups in a bathroom. The sign also says that there is no servicing of rooms on Sundays, but mine wasn’t serviced on the Saturday either. Unfortunately I had left my towel on the floor on Saturday morning as I had used it for three nights at that stage, this left me with no clean towel for the Sunday morning. It also meant that my take away food containers from the night before had spent the entire day in the bin leaving a less than pleasant odor in the room during the hot day. I feel that charging $4 for a bottle of Woolworths water in the mini bar is a bit steep when I can buy a 24 pack up the road for $9, but the rest of the mini bar prices seemed ok, most places I stay in offer complimentary bottled water. The room itself was spacious and mostly clean, but there is a rather large stain on the carpet. There is no fitted sheet on the bed so I spent part of each night trying to rearrange the flat sheet that was used as an under sheet that kept coming untucked. On the two occasions that my room was made up, it wasn’t with clean bedding, but a rather hastily remake of what was on the bed. It was far from perfect. Shameful Customer Service!

On arrival on Friday night 11th March 2022 (Labour Day long weekend), we went to check in and it was brought to our attention after driving six hours to be here that our rooms booked for Friday and Saturday night, where not in the system! After showing the confirmation booking email sent by management back in January 2022 (which I received after calling and booking in the four rooms personally) with the apparent “manager at the time”. They managed to find my booking on “their old system”. That was when the original man at the front desk called whom I’m assuming was his wife to come to the front office, she asked why and said loudly on speaker “Well tell them to leave there’s nothing we can do about it”. She then realized she was being listened to by myself and quickly ended the conversation. When she arrived to the office, her tone and mannerism towards us was disgusting. The words I’m sorry never left her mouth! As she slithered back out the back, her husband found us four rooms to book into for the Friday night. It was now 7.30pm! These were at full cost and not the same rooms we originally booked! As for the rest of the weekend in his words, “There’s nothing I can do” and insisted he was “stressed” by the situation… NO ATTEMPT was made to fix the situation, these incompetent people had caused.
