This property has several areas. The main bar, lounge, function room, games/pool area, pokies room, kids play area, and hotel and huge car parks. This review is about the 'STAR' bar. There is a reasonable menu but when we arrived a staff member mentioned that the chicken parmigiana and beer was only 10 dollars. So we took their advice and ordered. While waiting we reviewed the bar area. Very big, monster tv has a stage obviously to accommodate a band. Huge snooker/pool area with 10 tables. Light bright and spacious. All formalities for a pub in Australia. - air, heat, sound, betting, food, drink. outside seating if weather good. The food arrived after 15 minutes and the first impression was not appealing. However, the parma was great, not perfect but very good. TRUE VALUE FOR MONEY. We wandered around the hotel from room to room. The pokies room was big with 40 plus machines, The lounge area was also large and had the chef in view so the patrons can converse with him while he cooks. I did not stay in the hotel rooms but asked to look at them. They are dated, small, but clean. rates are between 90-150 dollars depending on numbers and season. Not really my cup of tea I have a connection to this old hotel- I had my bucks party here 46 years ago. Handy location for car/horse racing. We took 15 photos but for what ever reason they...
Read moreWhile looking for a venue for our sporting function, we had a very vague brief with the number of guests. Initial thoughts were for approximately 120-150 guests.||||Wendy was our go-to person and was more than accommodating in our needs and wants. Kids were entertained by a selection of playstation games, and a pool table during the luncheon.||||Given the international and sporting nature of our guests, we opted for the premium buffet. The food was spot-on, with our choice of roast lamb and chicken, butter chicken and pumpkin ravioli, ceasar salad and garden salad with pavlova and chocolate mousse for sweets as our options.||||We had a number of dietary requirements, and given the strenuous activity, the vegetarians were also given a plated meal. Gluten-free was managed very well to reduce cross-contamination, and all were happy.||||Our numbers peaked at 223 which was at capacity for the room - the improvement I suggest is a double-buffet to get the meals out quickly. Having said that, there was plenty of food and the kitchen kept on bringing more.||||We definately enjoyed the Sandown Park Hotel function we had, and it was great...
Read moreWe all agree the food was very good and worth the wait. There was 6 adults today, we all orederd and our friend who ordered last got his meal first and was finishes before we even got ours. Service was not the best. It came with a smile and they are very friendly, but the restaurant was not busy enough, there was about 35 to 40 people sitting down for a meal and 5 font of house staff and well the speed of service was terrible. It was clean and neat to look at. Very much a typical gaming room bistro. I had garlic prawns, a garlic bread, and dessert, Hubbie had a entree squid and the special Porterhouse for the day and the total it was $84. So not cheap but did enjoy it all. The the dessert was explained as a burnt lemon and lime tart and well there was no burnt it was just taken out of the cake display and put on the plate with some cream...
