Ended up spending 2 nights with my partner on a business trip. Personally I would rate the room of our first night a 1& 1/2 stars, but the actual booking of the room was not in my hands. I just looked up for reasonably priced hotels in the area at the last minute that didn't bust the bosses budget!..... However for the price I found online and the price he ended up paying for. The quality of the room described to him that he was paying for!!!! SERIOUSLY guys!! Room number 50 ( last room up the stairs on the left tucked in the corner). Now bare with me ppl. I find it online $121, pretty reasonable compared to some. Especially for all the amenities promised, ie-double/single 1 QS bed, 2 single beds. Air-con,free TV and Wi-Fi access. The boss up in Qld makes the booking himself he pays $135 p/n and is assured is furnished with a comfortable lounge area with lounge, free coffee/teea coffee,,hair dryer, iron, remote control flat-screen TV, free Wi-Fi. Large comfortable bed plus 2 singles,, Pool, BBQ facilities AND the all important free parking large enough for an 6ton truck. Alas š« poor room 50 was missing, coffee, working kettle, no iron, lounge seat, the 2 single beds, plus the TV wouldn't work, universal remote control with flat batteries kept in with a strip of green sticky tape. Wi-Fi was terrible couldn't even get any reception was so weak& kept dropping out. Just didn't bother. Pillows were like the cheap thin Kmart ones always on sale the room just didn't fit the repair or repaint list on the revamp budget. Poor sad room 50 has been forgotten and only used as a last resort it seems. šÆš¤ However, we unexpectedly end up having to stay in Sydney for another night. This time to get allocated to another room on the ground floor.Number 29š¤š Wow we got working kettle with coffee/etc, hair dryer,an iron there's the missing loungeš 2 single beds and people the most comfortable queen sized bed my partner and I have EVER slept on. Best sleep ever!!! Seriously did not want to get up to the 430am alarm. We had extra pillows ,extra towels, the TV worked first time not that it was watched. Instantly fell into the best sleep. Back up to 3- 1/2 stars š nudging a 4 nearly. Most certainly redeemed yourselves people. Yes We got the name of that mattress and I will find one š I must also mention the large environmentally friendly Australian made liquid shampoo, conditioner and body wash dispensers in each room. You kick it over on the 4-5 star hotels and their mini bottles and soaps. Better quality. Excellent, works, feels and smells wonderful. This time you gave to us what you told the big man up in Qld and what he paid for.š¤š I believe that the hotel should make available appropriate BBQ cooking utensils for paying patrons to utilize at the BBQ area patrons can freely use. I ended up having to buy some stuff to make do with myself. Mark it to their room! If anything goes walk about BILL them!!!! That's what the bigger hotel chains do even for more minor things. The staff are pretty laid back and approachable both in person and via phone. The pictures of the original building and it's history is great They've done well with the restoration and effort to keep one of Cambelltown's original colonial historical buildings alive and kicking is brilliant. Closely located to the township shopping hub, public transport etc it's just walking distance to most.
The sheets are clean and of good quality, bathroom meets hygienic cleaning standards, more towel and a couple extra pillows would be great. With the major growth of Cambelletown since my last visit over 20+ years ago the cultural diversity of residents from other countries plus the towns historical buildings and story, this little Hotel can really go places. Most definitely up a few notches from the IBIS Hotels. Thanks...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWell....where to begin? Dust mites in the bedding and mattresses or poor breakfast times?
Breakfast first: 7:30 am weekdays and 8am weekends are the earliest times to have breakfast delivered. You'll fork out $12 for scrambled eggs on toast that are nothing special - over crumbly and dry. Over priced rooms. Old beds with torn mattress coverings that look as though Homer Simpson slept there and left his impression sunken into the mattress....pillows are flat and horrible, oh, and you'll share your bed with other unwanted guests that make you itch ALL NIGHT LONG!
For an establishment that claims a 3-4 star accommodation rating online, I expected better than what we received. Their rating across various sites was inconsistent.
Staff are really nice - the only positive I have to say about the place.
On first glance, the room we were originally given (33) appeared clean and tidy, but on closer inspection....woah! 3 people check in and there are only 2 towels. No face washers. Mould along the bottom floor tiles in shower. Paint chipped on walls. Lights that do not work. Broken refrigerator. Closet doors that do not slide properly. Broken blinds. Filthy carpet - white socks end up black within minutes. Dirty wine glasses and cutlery in room. Terrible. They need to use fabreeze for the horrible smells in this room! Did I mention the mattresses? I'm sure I could come up with a Godfather reference - their arches have fallen...go to the mattresses. All else can be forgiven in a room, but a bad mattress is unforgivable.
Perhaps other rooms are better? Well...this is what I'm inclined to believe. This guest will be able to tell you that this is true, but only slightly better. After a sleepless night of horror, scratching ourselves to the bone, we were thankful to have been moved to a better room (26) with firmer, newerish mattresses and the good news - we slept well. No crawling sensation while we slept and no itching. HOORAY!
HOWEVER... the jug in this room was broken and leaked once filled. There was no liquid soap in the Despenser. The TV remote didn't work - flat batteries. Alarm clock went off at midnight! sigh And the chain was missing on the front door.
Plenty of towels in this room and to our delight, FACE WASHERS⦠HOORAY! You'll have to step over a tiny bath to get into the shower in this room, but at least it is shallow. Good lighting throughout the room and blinds seem to work well enough. Pillows were only slightly less flat in this room.
So my original review and rating for the first room (33) would have been a very sad and sorry 0 for the room and 1 star for the lovely staff, but thankfully the upgrade (26) earns the establishment an extra 2 stars for a better bed and an extra star for the staff for looking after us as best they could.
Forget about booking a room at this inn online via hotel booking agencies. Call the Colonial direct and make a booking for a better deal. Let them know what you want up front. They will do their best to look after you, but if they're pretty full, it's a game of pot luck as to your pickings.
All my best to would be travellers. Hope you enjoy your stay...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe write up on line about The Colonial is a far stretch from the reality. The reviews are correct. We looked around and unfortunately there was not much available in Campbelltown for our dates. As it was, $730 for 5 nights was way above what we wanted to pay for that area. First of all Iād like to compliment the staff. They were lovely. The house keeping staff especially were very friendly and helpful. Our beds were comfortable and there was enough hot water. Thatās about as good as it gets. |I double checked there was wifi as my daughter works from her computer from 5am in the morning and then later at night. I was told there was wifi. There wasnāt. |We were then told it was being fixed and it didnāt get fixed. So my daughter lost 2 days work and 2 days pay. |We were not offered compensation in any way. The 2nd night we stayed there was some kind of deal going on in the car park. At 2am, arguing and fighting broke out in the room above my folks room and then 2 cars sat idling with their lights on for an hour and a half in the car park. Right outside my folks room. They are elderly so it was very unsettling. I watched from another room as baskets of washing were brought out to cars and then cars moved and people got out and In. It all seemed very dodgy and not what we needed on a family medical emergency trip. |There was no cutlery or plates but a toaster and kettle. We had to buy a knife just so we could have toast. |The rooms were very smelly and musty. We bought air freshener just to make it bearable for 5 days. |If you had to stay In This area Iād recommend it for a night if you were stuck. But for the price itās definately not worth it. Iāve stayed in 5 star beach accomodation thatās been cheaper than this. It is however close to shops and transport if thatās...
