Extremely Disappointing.
We originally called to book Birds 'n' Blooms, however, despite the website saying it was available we were told it was booked but a superior property was available. I was told it was a brand new property and a 'step-up' from Birds 'n' Blooms.
We were offered a discounted rate because the website said it was available for a lot less.
Despite the discount we still found it disappointing and wouldn't stay again.
Firstly, we were told we could check in at 1:30. When we arrived at 1:45 we were told it wasn't ready as they were 'chasing the builders out'!! ... When we finally got in after 3 the cottage (not a house, as we were expecting) wasn't finished! We spent the next two days listening to building noise and jumping over tools, cords and carpenters.
The spa didn't work, the washing machine was 'there but not installed', the fridge wasn't on, there were no bedheads and no dining furniture, many light bulbs were missing, toilet brushes were delivered halfway through our stay, we were given one stained tea towel, 6 towels for 8 people, a red-mud path to the door and a PLASTIC tray was left in the oven!
We were 4 adults, me, hubby, my folks and 4 kids 12,11,2 & 9 months. We complained as soon as we saw the place and were reminded about the 'great rate' we were given. We never would have booked, for any discount, if we knew the condition of the place. She may have been trying to do us a favour but it really put a dampener on our holiday (a rare treat with four kids.)
Each complaint was addressed, we weren't ever really satisfied though.
The Spa - wouldn't work as there wasn't an 'on' button. We were shown we could switch it on outside (convenient!) but by the second day the workmen hand disabled this also. No explanation, just 'remember the discount'.
The Washing Machine - we were told they could wash for us for $15 per load! We have four kids! That would cost us a fortune, that's why we book places with washers and driers! Eventually, after lots of arguing, they washed and dried two loads for free.
The Furniture - it clearly wasn't fully furnished, which was inconvenient, we were told to use the outdoor furniture. A square, 4-seater table for 8 people. We asked for extra towels which weren't delivered. My Dad eventually found a cleaner who got us towels. She was lovely and really helpful.
Builders - the outside wasn't finished either. There was mud all over the front entrance making it unusable. The was no railing on the verandah or ramp. Part of it was built during our stay which meant hammering, welding etc. We asked if it could be done after we left and were told she wanted it done as soon as possible. And don't forget the discount rate!
On top of everything the lady we dealt with the whole time was impolite to my parents and difficult to deal with.
Traffic noise was...
Read moreFirst visited here on Oct 6-8th, 2020. First stay in unit 4. Fell in love with this place...so we returned on Oct 16-18th, 2020! 2nd visit we stayed in the 2Brm villa (in main bedroom only). Incredible!
Attention to detail everywhere. Large rooms, SUPER-comfy king bed and pillows, sumptuous bathrooms, air-con/heating, large TV.
Unit 4 has a shower/spa in the newly-appointed spacious bathroom w complimentary toiletries. sml kitchenette (microwave, sink, fridge, cutlery). Large TV at the far end of huge studio room with bed at the other end, couch in-between.
2Brm villa has a full kitchen if you want to cook your own food, plus a large CURVED TV in the kitchen/lounge area. Bedroom/bathroom are separate. They locked off the door to the 2nd bedroom to save us money.
I’m trying to be brief, but this doesn’t suffice. A couple of tips to enjoy your stay. 1. READ THE COMPENDIUM!!! (Gina, the owner, constantly updates it with useful info!). 2. The pub is very close and has great meals!
Yungaburra is such a spectacular place, and Blue Summit Hideaway is a MUST for those who like a little pampering. WE’LL DEFINITELY RETURN...
Read moreThe location was superb regarding exploring Yungaburra by foot. The walk to the platypus viewing spot was so short that we did it without effort each morning and evening during our stay. And we DID see platypus after going to the spot recommended by the owner, Gina. :)
Gina also recommended eating at "Our Place" where I experienced one of the best sandwiches ever. If you go there: Try the BLAT!
Yungaburra exceeded every expectation - the setting, the atmosphere, the locals, the vast variety of shops, the surrounding nature. And of course: The platypus, which were the reason we went in the first place. But we got so much more. Including a spectacular view of a horde of flying foxes going from A to B for the night.
Our villa was absolutely beautiful. And our 10 year old loved that we could relax with a movie on Netflix in the evening after a day's adventure in town. Regardless of one's wish to experience Yungaburra, the stay at Blue Summit would be worth going for.
We left The Blue Summit and Yungaburra with a feeling of wanting to return. That it would be an ideal spot to enjoy retirement, when...
