Unfortunately, I had a very disappointing experience with Our Place in Yungaburra.
We had made a reservation for dinner, but my partner unexpectedly fell ill last night and we were unable to attend. We understand that no-shows can be frustrating for any business, and we would have gladly informed the restaurant earlier had the situation not been urgent.
However, what shocked us was the phone call we received the next morning from the manager. Instead of a polite follow-up or even just a quick note to express disappointment, my partner was yelled at and verbally abused for not showing up, with the manager venting about lost revenue because of us. My partner hung up and then the owner left a very long voicemail message filled with abuse.
This kind of aggressive behaviour is completely inappropriate and deeply upsetting. Talk about unprofessional.
Also the owner claims there so busy all the time and clearly pissed off at most if not all customers yet look at all the petty immature responses owner has previous written to reviews - clearly they are not that busy if the owner has so much time on there hands.
The owner sound like a really angry person who gets upset at anything that goes wrong maybe your in the wrong business, don't you think? You should not be working in hospo then. Maybe it's time to hang up the apron? Don't you think?
There is a more respectful and decent way to handle these situations, especially in a small community where kindness and understanding go a long way.
After this encounter, I don't feel comfortable returning or recommending anyone else eat here.
The entire interaction left a bad taste in my mouth and left a bad impression on our holiday. It’s a shame, because we were genuinely looking forward to dining there.
I hope the management can reflect on this and consider a more constructive approach in future. No one should be made to feel unwelcome or attacked, especially during already difficult...
Read more5-star everything. I never do reviews. And my husband doesn’t usually say much about dining experiences, but as we left My Place last night he said ‘I’ve never had a dining experience like that before - it was absolute hospitality’. The food was amazing. I had garlic prawns, he had pork scallopini, and our daughter had kids bolognaise (which, even though it was a kids meal, was so good that I would have been happy to eat it at the best Italian restaurant). It was all so good, nothing was left on our plates. The owners (a husband and wife team) obviously work hard and take great pride in their awesome business. Lauren went the extra mile with our toddler - bringing out things to keep her occupied (books and fun play-mats, etc) and made us feel relaxed dining with a toddler. She also provided plates, cutlery and silicon cups appropriate for kids (why don’t more restaurants do this!?). She regularly checked in on us despite a busy restaurant - and she was always happy to help! As we left, David, who was pumping amazing food out of the kitchen, took the time out to give my daughter a beautiful Italian shortbread cookie - it was awesome and she was delighted. Thank you so much for a great experience - Our Place is a credit to you...
Read moreIt was just OK. We ordered the octopus, the saganaki, the fish of the day and the eye fillet. The starters were just OK - the saganaki was pretty hard - not sure if that was due to it sitting on the pass too long, but the service was pretty good. The octopus was OK too, but lacking some flavour - it was cooked well however. The fish was a little over cooked and had a big bit of bone, but still tasted OK (again). The eye fillet I ordered medium rare - it came out well done. I don’t usually send something back, but I did this time as it was a $48 steak - the next one was perfectly cooked, but honestly, the jus was pretty bland. The veg was good, but for such an expensive meal, we were a little disappointed. The staff were SUPER polite and accomodating about the wrong steak being served (and even gave a free drink), but I think generally, given the price, it didn’t live up to expectations. This may have been a atypical night as it looked like the chef was the only one in the kitchen and they were a bit busy. Give it a chance - going by past reviews, my experience was...
