This is the type of simple European hotel that the travel books used to find for us. It is unknown to American travelers. The hotel is a short walk from the center of town but closer to the main cable car lift to the mountain above town. The hotel is clean, simple and quiet with an incredible breakfast, the best we have ever had. The town of Mariazell is a pilgrimage destination with a marvelous basilica and the surrounding countryside is undeveloped and natural, full of hiking trails.
