This is a delightful family-run hotel, with friendly, enthusiastic, professional staff and a real personal touch. It has very spacious and comfortable bedrooms and public spaces, and two swimming pools (a reasonably large, conventional indoor one, and an unusual semi-covered outdoor one filled with saltwater). The spa facilities looked impressive, although we didn’t use them. The hotel doesn’t have a garden, although there is a large outdoor patio area.||Our bedroom was a long room in the eaves, facing east/southeast. This meant morning sun, and a view of the mountains across the valley, with the main road running along the valley below. Because the weather was warm/hot for our whole week, we kept the door to our balcony open all night, but were barely troubled by traffic noise (only once, early morning, when we think a huge lorry was delivering to a supermarket). The hotel is situated far enough back from the main road for noise to be a non-issue for most guests.||Our bathroom was well equipped, but the only window was (necessarily) in the roof, and therefore sealed. This meant the room became uncomfortably hot. We discussed the heat issue with the receptionist on our final morning, wondering whether another year (because we most definitely will return) we should ask for a different type of room. She explained that the hotel is embarking on a major refurbishment of all the rooms this autumn, and that this includes a cooling system in the roof. So next summer these eaves room should be cooler.||The food is outstanding. We enjoyed an extensive spread at breakfast, which really set us up for all-day hiking. We managed to return to the hotel shortly before 1700 each day in order to enjoy complimentary coffee, tea and cake. This was part of a (to us) astonishing array of salads, cold cuts, soup, cakes and even ice cream, alongside tea and (proper!) coffee making facilities, available to guests who had booked three-quarters board, from 1500 to 1700. Dinner included a large, varied salad buffet, a starter brought to the table, soup, a choice of main courses, and a dessert. (I think people may have returned to the buffet for cheese, but we know when to stop!) The food was imaginative and delicious, and the portion sizes were just right (ie not too big). On my husband’s birthday, totally unexpectedly, our waiter appeared with a Sachertorte and a blazing candle/sparkler and led a chorus of Happy Birthday…. It was all very kind! The wine list was not extensive, but the prices were fair, and we worked out that the best quality wine (for our tastes) was just above the E40 mark.||Dinner was served from 1830 to 2030, and the early start suited us. Indeed our only reservation about the hotel was the discovery that guests from a sister hotel could come en masse to the Bergkönig for dinner. On our second evening, when we had came down at about 1930, we reached the salad buffet just as a group of about 30 people swarmed into the room and simply denuded it. The salads were replenished, and the group disappeared into a separate part of the restaurant for the remainder of the dinner. But this was not an experience we wanted to repeat. So we simply came down much earlier thereafter.||When we booked the hotel, we also booked the hotel’s own transport from (and back to) Innsbruck airport (it is a short, relatively painless transfer). The price was fair and the arrangements worked seamlessly.||We have spent innumerable summer holidays in the Alps over the last forty years, in Austria, Switzerland, northern Italy, France and Slovenia. As we have grown older, our standards have become more demanding, so it was a joy to discover such a lovely hotel in an area with such exceptional hiking...
Read moreWe just returned from 1 week vacation in Bergkönig. Like all hotels, it has pluses and minuses. All in all we enjoyed our stay and all was fine and probably we will come again. I will start with pluses. 1st - Wellness. Amazing outdoor pool, nice relaxation area with water beds, nice saunas. Indoor pool we almost did not use, as the water was too cold for my daughter. 2nd - non alcoholic drinks at breakfast, lunch and dinner included (coffee machine makes different types of coffee, soda machine, sparkling water). At breakfast fresh orange juice machine was available as well as a juicer. We enjoyed fresh orange juice every morning. 3rd - we appreciate free sleds we used every day. They are of good quality, need to be reserved beforehand. 4th - pretty good location in the center of Neustift town. Close to Elferlift and bus stop. 5th - flexible booking conditions with free cancellation of 1 week. 6th - Nespresso coffee machine in the room as well as tea and coffee selection.
Minuses: 1st - we booked a junior suite and expected to have something charming like on the hotel website pictures, but our room was a regular superior room with additional childs room with 2 beds. The furniture was pretty old, especially in childs room. Also doors, door frames all have scratches and look shabby. Definitely need renovation. 2nd - breakfast was poor. No pancakes, no porridge, just the same simple selection of salami, cheese, bread, yogurt, fruits (mostly apples and oranges for the juice). The lady is making eggs and omelets - she is using an old shabby looking frying pan. The toaster also knew better days. 3rd - lunch at 15.00 - too late, by 3 pm you are starving. You need to either wait or go eat somewhere else or have other snacks.
The food was pretty good at lunch and dinner (except Italian night, which was horrible). Delicious Apfelstrudel at lunch! Breakfast - small choice, but also fresh and of a good quality.
Cleaning - so so. We had a sticky spot near the garbage can for 3 days, it was not cleaned by the maid, at the end I cleaned it myself. The maid also kept coming in very inconvenient time for us. Maybe because we did not ski like most of the guests and had a different schedule.
All in all we would recommend this hotel. Value for money - maybe a bit on the...
Read moreWe spent a week here in September and went on many hikes in the area. Both pools were so lovely and the relaxation areas were perfect to read and snuggle in - perfect for when you come back tired from your adventures! Our room was spacious and had everything we needed. The atmosphere in the hotel was very calm and comfortable, it never felt busy and we felt like we could be in our own private bubble (though it was fun to recognise other guests on the mountains). We loved having the super card for the buses and cable cars (there's even one going up that is walking distance from the hotel). ||I know I always search for 'gluten' in reviews to check if others had good experiences so I just want to say: as a celiac, I have never had a better gluten free experience in a hotel. There were quite some options at breakfast and some at the afternoon snacks, but it was in the dinners that I feel like this hotel went above and beyond. Every dish was automatically adjusted if it contained gluten and I never felt like I was missing out. It was so wonderful to not have to worry or even think about it once, all staff knew that our table had one gluten free person and that it was me. Not only that, but the food was delicious and it was always fun to choose a menu in the morning knowing that all of them would be super good. In general, most places in the area are pretty good about indicating which allergens are in their dishes and I was happy to be able to eat at some of the huts as well.||In terms of COVID: During our time there the hotel took many preparations to make sure we could enjoy ourselves while staying safe and we felt very comfortable because of these precautions. Once it is safer again and lockdown measures can be lifted, I would trust this hotel to take care of its guests. We'd love to be back in...
