Location: The Renaissance Wien Hotel boasts a convenient location, just a 20-minute walk from the famous shopping street. It's also very close to public transport options, such as the subway, making it easy to explore the city.
Check-In and Room Experience: I stayed for one night and encountered a few issues that could be improved. As a Marriott Gold Elite member, I expected a smooth check-in process. However, upon arrival at around 11:00 AM, my check-in experience was notably poor. The reception staff were curt and unwelcoming, failing to verify my reservation or status and offering no alternatives for comfort while I waited for the official check-in time.
Upon securing my luggage with a trainee, I left the premises and returned at 3:00 PM. The reception experience was markedly different, with another staff member, Predrag, who apologized and kindly offered a complimentary drink. Despite this, the initial interaction left a lasting impression.
In the room, the minibar was empty, and there was no shoehorn, slippers, or bathrobe provided, which are amenities I typically expect at a hotel of this caliber.
Room Condition: The room was clean and nice, with no noticeable problems.
Sleep Quality: The pillows and bed were comfortable enough for a good night's sleep. However, ongoing construction near the hotel disturbed my sleep quality. Additionally, during an afternoon power nap attempt, the loud housekeeping cart with bottle noise was disruptive.
Room Amenities: The room lacked an espresso machine, offering only instant coffee, which was a bit disappointing for a coffee enthusiast. The provided toiletries were fixed on the wall, and the brand used was Tokyo Milk. While the quality was satisfactory, the fixed dispensers can sometimes feel less luxurious than individual bottles.
Housekeeping: Throughout my stay, I observed the housekeeping cart left unattended in the hallway near my room. While I understand this may be during housekeeping hours, it can give a cluttered appearance and might not be the best first impression for guests.
Service Quality: The service was average, with limited employees displaying a smiley demeanor. This could be cultural, but it impacted the overall warmth of the hospitality.
Breakfast: The breakfast buffet provided a good variety of options, meeting European standards. There was enough choice to satisfy different tastes and dietary preferences.
Internet: The internet speed was quite good, with speeds around 50 Mbps, which was sufficient for both work and leisure browsing.
Value for Money: Considering the overall experience, I do not feel the hotel offered good value for money. The initial bad check-in experience cast a shadow over the rest of my stay.
Security: I felt secure throughout my stay at the hotel.
Local Tips: For dining options, guests might need to take a cab or Uber, as there are no notable nearby restaurants. If the weather is good, a 20-minute walk can also lead to nice dining options.
Overall Impression: The Renaissance Wien Hotel has a lot of potential given its prime location and good breakfast offerings. However, attention to detail in room amenities, housekeeping management, and check-in experience could enhance the guest experience. With a few improvements, this hotel could easily match the high standards expected from the...
Read moreI have been a Marriott titanium member for 9 years and I stared writing review/diary to hopefully provide some useful information to you and hopefully the hotel is improving to be really a hospitable place for serving their guests. My final evaluation (the number of stars) is heavily based on what the staff attitude to me and if they treat a loyal elite member well.
I stayed at the Renaissance Wien Marriott for 7 nights (checked in July 20 and checked out July 27). I checked in around 3:00pm-4:00pm on July 20 by Predrag. Below are my views on good (+) and not-good (-) about this hotel.
Good things: Location is very convenient, next to the U4 Meidling Hauptstrasse station that can takes you anywhere. Around the hotel there are many restaurants, shops, and grocery stores. I booked two standard rooms. Both were upgraded to junior suite even before I checked in, which was very nice, BUT (see below). Have a small, but ok gym Have a sauna The breakfast buffet is great with many items. The price is very reasonable for the rooms in Vienna. The first three nights two of my rooms were on different floor, but they arranged for my rooms to be on the same floor for the rest of the stay. Janus was a great receptionist who always smiled while talking to customer. Janus arranged room 552 for my family to be close to my room 528
Not-good things: Predrag checked me in. It appeared to me that Predrag (a front office supervisor) was very hostile. On the communication via messages, Predrag was very friendly, but Predrag chose to intimidate me with intimidating looks and questions/answers counteracting what I asked for. I asked if the hotel allowed four people in a room. Predrag asked: “how old are your kids?”. I answered “they are 17 and 15”. Predrag answered (with intimidating look/voice): “we can not put your children on baby cribs”. I asked for a second key to one of the rooms and Predrag said: “you booked with one person and reluctantly gave me another key”. I have been at many hotels over the years, and they always ask: “how many keys would you need Sir?”. I asked Predrag to put my name in a specific room, and Predrag answered with an unfriendly look: “I have already put your name in the other room”, and then reluctantly did so. Predrag didn’t provide me extra information for the titanium elite. I had to ask about the breakfast time, if there was a lounge, where the gym is and its operational time, etc. No swimming pool There is no club lounge Rooms are very small, including the junior suite. If you have stayed with a junior suite before, then the junior suite here is even smaller than standard rooms at many other hotels (especially those in the US). The hotel is next to the railway and thus noisy when a train passes by. If you are sensitive to noise, this could be a problem, especially if you have a room facing the railway. Hall ways leading to rooms are not clean towers are no longer a...
Read moreThe Hotel is located almost downtown Vienna. The metro station from the U4 is just a few steps from the hotel. You can reach Schönbrunn with just one stop and downtown with all the famous sights is only 5 stops away. Public transport is easy to use. Just buy a Vienna card for either 24/48/72hrs.
The check in was super professional and friendly. The agent interacted with the guests and smalltalked. It gave it a very welcome and warm atmosphere. All status benefits were given or even topped without asking. All in all a fantastic check-in. Check out was super professional and friendly to.
We were lucky and got upgraded to a junior suite. It was huge, lots of windows and had great atmosphere. I loved the combination of modern, art, colours and freshness. It gave the suite a breezy touch but it was still cosy and comfortable. The bathroom wasn't renovated yet but it was still in good shape.
We had dinner at the Wunder Kammer and we tried the bar as well. Dinner was ok but nothing special or fancy. The bar is good and the staff was super nice and friendly.
However I don't like the concept that a single F&B outlet is used to be a Bar, Restaurant, sort of lounge and for breakfast. It is neither fish nor fowl. It is no atmosphere for dinner and it is no atmosphere as a bar. The decoration, colours, interiors and furniture however is great again.
Breakfast is something different. Unfortunately the Hotel accommodates multiple bus loads of tourists. These loads of people flood the breakfast and you have no chance to enjoy a relaxed start into the day. The chef preparing the fresh eggs could not really speak German or English and it seems that he is there to accommodate the bus loads. We went to the reception and asked when the coaches would leave and come back by that time. The atmosphere was much quieter and more relaxed. The buffet is great in quality and quantity. The food presentation is super and with lots of love and details.
Staff was nice to us but they were so stressed and running around that I had pity with them.
I do understand that city hotels have to accommodate such bus loads of tourists. What leaves a bad taste is the regular and frequent guests will not get the real experience of a property.
All in all this was a great stay. The hotel has a phenomenal Hardware (reception, restaurant, rooms). Staff at the reception is top and in general good. The F&B concept could tolerate some...
