A good experience overall. ||Liked · It's very conveniently located, a few minutes walk from shops etc. The area is full of hotels, places to eat and buy things like soft drinks, cigarettes etc. One or two of the staff members were excellent; helpful and friendly. Room service was very convenient and easy to use. Having a bar in the hotel was useful to pick up beer. Room was very spacious and the facilities were good e.g. shower etc. They we efficient cleaning and taking care of the room.||||Disliked · Firstly, there was no mini bar as had been advertised so no soft drinks available and they had tea, two small sachets of nescafe with no powdered milk and a kettle etc. If you're a coffee addict like me, take your own supply. (I don't understand how they couldn't get some 3-in-1 sachets very cheaply.) Also, the room service coffee was terrible, drinkable but tasteless. The service you got was very hit and miss and depended on who attended you. One of the room servers was excellent and went out of his way to get me my caffeine fix and was helpful and friendly. At other times, they gave a convincing impression of not really giving a crap. For example, I was told there were no soft drinks available and then a day later was offered a pepsi when I ordered and I was told the price of the food but then a can of pepsi was an extra 2 dollars (normal for a mini bar I know) but I"d like to have been warned! Having a bar in the building was convenient but they only had bottles of beer and shots so anyone going there needs to stock up at the Gulf Hotel booze shop beforehand. Unfortunately, the bar was an "Arabic Disco" with loud blaring music, nowhere really comfortable to sit down and not overly friendly or efficient service. I didn't bother trying the other lounge as all I wanted was to sit outside with a view, which was surprisingly difficult to do. There was an outside swimming pool with chairs by it. Good. But no drinks service. Similarly, if you want a kind of cafe-terrrace sit-down and chill environment or even just s sit-outside resort type bar, you've got to go to an actual resort. The room service food was very hit and miss. I had excellent Chinese sweet and sour fish but the club sandwich was disgusting, burnt, tasteless and soggy at the same time and what you got didn't always correspond to the description exactly e.g. half a mini frankfurter does not a sausage make!, missing items etc....

They showed me my bill for 80 BD ($212.20 US). They ran my card and it was declined. The waitress ran it again, it was declined. She ran it a 3rd time and it was approved. The first 2 time they told me it was declined. Turns out they weren't declined, they were approved for 85 BD ($225.46 US) and 300 BD ($795.76 US). And got my card shut off due to the back to back to back transactions.
After fighting with my credit card company and getting those charges cancelled and reimbursed, this place sent in some obviously last minute doctored receipts.
Example: one receipt has 4 - G. Vodka for 80 BD. Then on another receipt has 1 - G. Vodka for 180BD. First off that's a HUGE difference in prices and second I DON'T DRINK VODKA.
Then there was some food on one receipt, Hot Mazza and a Fruit Plater?? I don't remember ordering any food.
Then charged for a "Table Change"?? My buddy and I stayed at the same table for the 1 hour or so that we were there.
And what is a "Sheeola" or "Sheeala" or "Cheeola" or "Cheeala"?? (their handwriting is bad. Can't make it out). But apparently I was charged for that too.
They got me for 385 BD...
Read morePolo Hotel- Bahrain I appreciate the staff who worked so hard to make our stay comfortable. The location is great because of nearby restaurants and easy accessibility to different areas. It is just, the building is old, and the rooms are not cleaned every day. The toilets have a leakage, and the door locks make you worried. The AC vent is dusty and smells of cigarettes not good for anyone who has respiratory and sinus problems. They need to clean it every day even if they don’t have guests, they need to. There’s a club inside the building and disturbs each room during the night because of loud music. The room doesn’t have any e-kettle you still need to ask and the necessities a room should have. Our entire stay was plainly okay, not superb. If you plan to stay here with family, don’t. Plus, choose the Suite Room as this is the only not so great room, but it will serve its purpose. Staying the whole time inside your room might be not the best idea. In fairness, they kept us safe during our...
