I am just now checking out of Golden Tree Hotel after 6 nights. I am here on business and the company I represented arranged the hotel. I do realize that this hotel is a “no frills, no extra’s”. When checking in Sunday afternoon we were greeted by the very friendly staff. I went up to my room, which was very small, but overall appearance looked cleaned. I went to unpack my suitcases and realized there was no place to put my clothes. No closer, no drawers, no wear to hang anything, nothing. I went down to front desk to find our what was up. They said that was the room that was booked for me. Needless to say I was not happy. However, the hotel moved me into a room across the hall with sort of a closet to hang my clothes. I still was disappointed in the quality of the room and really the hotel. Remember first impression are lasting. Friends took us out to dinner and we returned to hotel and I slept well. In the morning I went to their Restaurant for their complementary breakfast “buffet”. At that point I realized this was a vegetarian hotel. Food appeared OK, but only a few serving utensils which can create a Food Safety problem. By now I got over the small room and poor selection for breakfast. That night after returning from dinner I was greeted by an extremely larger roach! I survived and so did the roach. Wednesday afternoon I discussed my concerns with management and the very polite young lady kept on repeating that this was the room that was selected and really I was stuck. After 15-20 minutes of talking she actually offered me another room. I declined her offer because I was too lazy to move. Oh, I forgot, because I was in the economy room I did not have access to the pool or gym. I will say again that the staff was very friendly and nice to talk with.|In retrospect, I should have checked out of this hotel and checked into another. Another...

My friends and I checked in and proceeded to head up to the roof top pool. I had left my wallet out in plain sight in the open on a table. None of us brought any money to the pool so I came down to our room to get some money to pay for the drinks at the pool.
However, I could not find my wallet and I checked all my luggage and emptied my bags. I panicked, checked my car parked outside and came up empty handed. I was starting to panic and thought someone had entered our hotel room and took my wallet. The front desk staff were extremely courteous and their son helped translate and went through all the security camera footage all the way back to when we checked in to see if anyone else was on our floor at any point and might have gained access to our room. Four of the staff took my situation extremely seriously with great urgency and began to confirm which of their cameras was aimed at the seventh floor including sending their staff to the seventh floor just to go wave at the camera to confirm it was the correct camera.
It turned out that my friend put all our wallets on the top of the dresser for safe keeping when we left for the pool and forgot to tell me when I went to go get cash for our drinks.
I was extremely embarrassed soI tried to immediately offer the front desk staff a $50 Belize tip for making them go through all the trouble of checking the security cam footage and sending staff back and forth but they graciously declined and were just happy to have helped and that I had found my wallet.
They were very professional and although it was a false alarm, they showed just how incredibly professional and courteous and helpful they were when I started panicking.
I was absolutely grateful for...
Read moreScammy and shady. Due to a cancelled flight, we had to find a hotel on short notice and they took advantage of us as a result. We booked for a king size bed suite, only for us to arrive and them to tell us that they had only small rooms available for us, due to their inventory not being synced with the system. And yet, they had the cheek to try to get us to pay for the king size suite anyway! The receptionist was rude, telling us he was doing us a favor because they didn't have many rooms left and he didn't want bad reviews. Oh so surprisingly once we pushed back they miraculously found an available king size bedroom. The room itself was ok: a few cracks here and there, noisy aircon but clean enough for one night.
My friends didn't have a better experience: they got a room, only to enter it and realize that it was already occupied by other guests.
The ride to the hotel was also a complete mess: our friend called them, asking for a ride. They sent both a van and a taxi to collect us: we went on the van, and the taxi told us we needed to pay a 30 USD penalty fare for not getting on when clearly nothing was communicated to us and said taxi probably could've compensated by picking the crowd of people at the airport. But hey, if you can get Western tourists to pay extra, why not?
Only positive point: the Asian restaurant in the hotel. The staff there was nice and welcoming and the dumplings were great. They actually helped us out when the hotel refused to get us cash for the taxi that...
