Where do I begin...From booking to arrival then departure we could not be more satisfied. A big shout out to Julie, Gia, Jeffry and Jami for streamlining our vacation prior to our arrival. It was great to see a Sandy Point representative the minute we stepped off the plane in San Pedro. You know from here on in you are in for a great vacation. Upon arrival we had the pleasant welcoming committee at the from desk with Camille, "Bernie", Nancy and Amy. The welcome Rum Punches were a very nice touch and made us all feel like you were happy to see us. We booked a seaview 2 bedroom, 2 bath gorgeous condo that we shared with our good friends and all of us were very comfortable the entire week. The suite was beautifully decorated for our arrival with a complimentary bottle of wine and an absolutely beautiful view of the ocean. Prior to our arrival I read several unfavorable reviews. I would like to give travellers an update now. Staff including front desk, bartenders, housekeeping and ground maintenance were exceptional. Everyone was friendly and made us feel like they were happy we were spending our vacation at Coco Beach. Kuddos to Eduardo, Jonathan, Jo, Dion, "Eddie", Maria, Rita and so many more. You ALL are the best! The resort is what it claims to be. It is a luxury beach resort on the beach. No, you can not swim in the ocean in-front of the resort, but if you did any kind of research you would know that prior to arrival. The ecosystem is very fragile with the second longest barrier reef "In the World" outside your door, the seagrasses are a very important part of a healthy marine environment. The staff painstakingly and constantly are cleaning the beach just for us. Precisely why Coco Beach provides a most fantastic pool arrangement with several depths and levels to satisfy everyone. Water slide and volleyball and water aerobics daily along with a hot spa. And yes, the water temperatures waere perfect no matter what part you swam in. Yes the hotel is 2.5 miles from town. Exactly the reason we booked there. We walked the beach several times in both directions and passed maybe a dozen other vacationers each time. If you want crowded beaches, noise and nightlife this place is not for you. However, if you want a beach all to yourself with peace and solitude with only the sound of the reef 1500 feet offshore while pelicans and cormorants soar overhead, then you will love it here. Water taxi transportation is available right at the end of the dock for a mere $5 pp one way. Round-trip will cost a couple $20 US dollars. Keep in mind, resorts further north will be double that price. Golf carts are available to rent as well. What a fantastic adventure going to town and blending with the locals. Just be mindful of the speed bumps and one way streets and you will have a great time. Carts are rented by the hour so you choose how long you want. Peddle bikes are also free for guest which is a main means of transportation for many on the island. Have no fear, accidents are very very rare. Food...now we're talking. Priced fairly (remember you are on an island where everything arrives by air or by water) Best darn Lava and Classic Burgers this side of paradise. But wait...the lobster was the best whether it was the Lobster Thermidor or Seafood Mediterranean. The small Cafe was perfect for a simple breakfast with seating inside or outside and the Pool Bar was great for lunch or dining Al Fresco for dinner. The topper was our last night in the Cocoblanca Restaurant. Fantastic fine dining in an elegant setting for that one dress up night. A nice blend of American and Caribbean dishes was available and top it off with homemade Coconut ice cream if you choose to. We had a full kitchen so we rented a cart and went to town our first day for breakfast...
Read moreMy husband and I just got back about a week ago from our fabulous trip to Belize where we stayed at Coco Beach Resort. We had an amazing time and are sad that it by so quick! I have to first give a shoutout to the hotel staff who made our stay very relaxing and easy by taking care of literally everything for us. They really go above and beyond when it comes to customer service here, from the moment you book your reservation to even after you've departed from the hotel post-stay.
A couple of specific employee shoutouts are needed for Reynaldo (this guy deserves a huge raise - he is outstanding, so friendly and went out of his way to help us with so much - we can't thank him enough!); Janelly (who helped us with granting all of the room requests we made prior to our stay, from it being my husband's Birthday to our preference for a higher floor); and Rose (who was truly a gem of a waitress at the pool bar / restaurant - such a nice person and made sure we always had access to ordering food & drinks each day). I feel bad that I didn't catch her name, but the hostess at Cocoblanca Restaurant was also another standout employee to us and she really made sure that our 2 nights of dining there were very enjoyable!
The resort itself is beautiful and has 2 incredible swimming pools with a hot tub in one of them. We never had an issue with getting 2 lounge chairs and an umbrella each time we went to the pool despite it being a peak season for them, which is amazing as it really frustrates us at other hotels when we have to wake up at the crack of dawn just to reserve a lounge chair. Here? There was never any wait or hassle for 2 lounge-chairs, and that's what we call true vacation! There is one thing to note that the beach is not really a swimmable one, which was fine for us as we always prefer swimming and relaxing by a pool in general. What was lovely about the pool attached to the bar as well as the hot tub is the amazing views of the Caribbean Sea from it. So relaxing!
Although we only ate there 2 times during our stay, we really enjoyed the Cocoblanca Restaurant for dinner. It has a variety of items catering to all tastes on the menu! The portion sizes are great, and the prices are incredibly reasonable for a luxury resort too. We did often dine at the Cocoblanca Pool Bar & Grill Restaurant (its more casual sister restaurant?), and we loved the food as well as drinks there too. My favorite meal was the chicken fajitas - whatever they put in the sauce, so yummy!! Please don't ever change that recipe. My husband thought the mushroom swiss burger was really excellent too.
As far as the room goes, we found it to be very comfortable and well-appointed too! We just a had a luxury room / studio with a pool view, but it was roomy enough for the 2 of us and we found the bed to be incredibly comfortable - maybe even dangerously so in that we were in bed early as well as slept in most days. The shower in the room is awesome - no tub but that was fine for us - but it really gave us inspo for when we redo our own house's shower. Such a cool design! We also felt like the balcony was very roomy, especially since some resorts have balconies where you can barely move around and this was not that at all.
Overall, we really enjoyed ourselves and were very impressed with Coco Beach Resort! We'd absolutely stay here again, and definitely hope to do so. It was an amazing vacation there with outstanding customer services, a relaxing property, and convenient location to golf cart...
Read moreCoco Beach Resort is trying to be a top-end resort, but it fails in the most basic things. Like having stable power or reliable a/c. If you want to have things like electric, hot water, internet, or cell service, then this is not the place for you. For the price we were paying for our room ($500+ a night), I would expect to have power and hot water. At least 4 of the nights we were there, the power would shut off at night and you would wake up in a puddle of sweat due to no a/c. Not to mention, your food in the fridge and freezer being ruined. One day, the entire island had no power from 10:30 a.m. to 12:36 a.m. We had to go to the front desk, which had a generator so the staff stayed cool, just not the guests, and beg for candles and flashlights. Power is clearly an issue for this place, which they conveniently fail to mention anywhere on their website. For a place that charges top-end prices, I would expect them to have multiple generators able to power up guest rooms like several other resorts in the area have. By failing to admit their struggles with reliable power, they are essentially lying to you. You expect a nice resort with basic things like power and that is not what you get. It is clear that power outages are the norm, not the exception and yet they do nothing to prepare guests for them. We lost hundreds of dollars of food because of power outages and the resort offered next to no compensation. The next issue they downplay is the seagrass. This greatly impacts your experience there. There is a noxious smell everywhere on the island and it makes you sick to your stomach. The entire island is plagued with seagrass, so you can't just go into the ocean from the beach. This place doesn't even really have a beach, so this is also something to be aware of. You basically have to go out on a boat to far away little islands to get away from the seagrass. Even then, there can be patches. So if you are going here to go to the beach, skip it. Everyone on the island uses smelly golf carts, so you have a bunch of drunk people driving like idiots along with huge trucks going top speed down the road. If you go into San Pedro in the morning, you will be stuck in golf cart traffic so bad that you won't move for 10 minutes at a time. Be prepared to get carbon monoxide poisoning from the fumes! The grounds of the resort are nicely landscaped, but the unrelenting smell of decaying seagrass kinda ruins it all. Multiple times throughout our stay the pool water was shut off too. We had heard from one of our tour guides that this is quite common - to run out of water and power. When the pool water was shut off, you couldn't use the waterslide in the pool. The staff was friendly and always looking for a tip. Everyone on the island seems to be thrilled to rip off tourists as much as they can. Be warned. Everyone wants a tip for everything. Overall, we wish we had gone to another place in another country. Our dreams of lazing about on a beach, swimming in clear water were...
